Episode 924: Virtual Farm Tours & Accessible Regenerative Education 🌱

We are honored to have our story featured on the The Urban Farm Podcast! Big thanks to Greg Peterson for the conversation and inviting us to share about our mission to make regenerative education accessible to all.

Here are some of the show notes from https://www.urbanfarm.org/2025/12/26/924-virtual-farm-tours-accessible-regenerative-education/

šŸ’» Immersive virtual tours as a tool to ā€œcopy and pasteā€ regenerative systems

šŸŒ Permaculture as a framework for peace, food security, and climate resilience

🚁 Using technology to expand access to farm-based learning

šŸ’š The emotional and healing power of land stewardship

šŸ‘©ā€šŸ« Teaching ethics, design, and systems thinking through lived examples

🤠 Shifting from rejection to resonance through service and community care

🚪 Education designed for inclusion, not gatekeeping

Key Questions Answered:

How did Andrew and Mary’s journey lead them to permaculture and regenerative agriculture?

Their path began with questioning systems of conflict and scarcity, combined with personal grief and a search for healing. Permaculture offered a framework where humans could become restorative forces within ecosystems and communities.

What problem do virtual farm tours solve in regenerative education?

Most people never get to visit functional regenerative farms. Virtual tours bring these spaces to students, growers, and communities, removing barriers of geography, mobility, time, and cost.

How do Edge Perma’s virtual farm tours work?

They combine 360° video, drone footage, aerial panoramas, 3D models, and clickable learning elements to show farms from every angle, including system evolution over time.

What makes virtual tours different from in-person farm visits?

They add layers of understanding—like aerial views, topography, and system mapping—that aren’t possible on foot, while complementing (not replacing) real-world visits.

How does this approach support different learning styles?

The immersive, visual format supports neurodiverse learners and people who struggle with traditional classroom-based education, helping more people feel seen and included.

What role does community and service play in their success?

Andrew and Mary describe a shift from self-promotion to service, relationship-building, and listening—an ethic that unlocked trust, collaboration, and new opportunities.

What does success mean to them beyond business growth?

Success is measured in meaningful human impact—healing landscapes, supporting grief and remembrance, and creating spaces that nurture both people and the planet.

Andrew Tuttle and Mary Marshall, co-founders of Edge Perma and Redtail Edge Design, share how they’re using immersive technology to transform regenerative agriculture education. Drawing from backgrounds in permaculture, ecological design, and lived experiences of healing through land stewardship, ...

We are thrilled to go live with our latest project- a virtual tour of Wild Hare Farm!

Join us on Wednesday, December 10, 4-6 p.m. for our second virtual Farm Walk brought to you by Farm Walks, a collaboration between Tilth Alliance and Washington State University Food Systems Program, and Edge Perma.

Farm Walks are farmer-to-farmer educational opportunities hosted by organic, sustainable, and innovative farm and food businesses throughout Washington State.

This free virtual farm tour is supported through the U.S. Department of Agriculture Transition to Organic Partnership Program (TOPP). TOPP is a program of the USDA Organic Transition Initiative and is administered by the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) National Organic Program (NOP).

The Northwest Transition to Organic Partnership Program (NW TOPP) helps farmers who are interested in pursuing organic certification by pairing them with a certified organic mentor in a similar geographic location and field of production.

Participants find the mentorship program extremely helpful for receiving guidance on their Organic System Plan, organic recordkeeping, land management, inputs and pest control, and more.

About Wild Hare Organic Farm
Though they are Puget Sound natives, Katie and Mark started organic farming on the east end of Long Island and cut their teeth selling to chefs and eaters in New York. After bringing their daughter Hazel into the world, they decided to put down roots in western Washington. With the support of a loving family, good friends and fellow farmers, they established Wild Hare Organic Farm shortly after Hazel’s first birthday.

In 2015, the Green family became the next generation of farmers and stewards of land that Dick and Terry Carkner have cultivated as Terry’s Berries for more than 30 wonderful years. They are honored to play this part in preserving farmland from one generation to the next and aim to protect the family-farm tradition, promote the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) model and produce uncommonly delicious and nutritious food.

On this Virtual Farm Walk, expect to:
Learn about all aspects of Wild Hare Organic Farm in Tacoma, WA

Learn about organic certification and the TOPP Mentorship program

Meet staff from Tilth Alliance, Washington State University (WSU), Wild Hare Organic Farm, Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) and Edge Perma

The #1 advice I give to all my students and colleagues: share your passion with the world as often as you can.

Since 2017, I’ve spoken at every event I could. Why put in all that effort?

Because I’m obsessed.....
with learning from brilliant farmers, studying regenerative systems, and sharing what I learn with anyone who will listen.

Every talk, every class, and every conversation is a chance to help propel the regenerative farming movement forward.

For my Pacific Northwest friends, below are a few upcoming opportunities to learn together. Please show up ready to participate because the most powerful classes are collective learning experiences.

I’m deeply grateful for the opportunities that keep coming our way, and it’s an honor to teach alongside my brilliant co-founder, Mary Marshall.

Come see us at one of these events (with more to be announced soon).
And if you’d like to bring us to your event, reach out. We’d love to support!
