🔬🌱 Septic Science Saturday: What Is a Drain Field?

You know about your septic tank—but what happens to the wastewater after it leaves the tank?

Meet the drain field!

The drain field is an underground area where wastewater from your septic tank is distributed through pipes and slowly filters through the surrounding soil. The soil helps naturally treat the wastewater before it moves deeper into the ground.

That means what happens above your drain field matters, too! Avoid parking vehicles, building structures, or planting trees with deep roots over the area, as they can damage your septic system.

💡 Septic Science Tip: Knowing where your drain field is located is an important part of being a septic-smart homeowner.

What if wastewater treatment could remove 85% of salt and 92% of heavy metals in just four hours?

Researchers testing a new wastewater treatment system are reporting promising results, including the removal of 90% of background salt and nearly all copper during testing with synthetic wastewater.

Innovations like this are an exciting reminder of how wastewater science continues to evolve—and why finding more effective ways to treat, manage, and protect our water resources matters. https://hubs.li/Q04tXSPF0

🔬💧 Septic Science Saturday: Where Does It Go After You Flush?

Ever wonder what happens after water disappears down your drain?

In a septic system, wastewater travels from your home into the septic tank, where solids settle and liquids separate. The liquid wastewater then moves into the drain field, where it’s naturally filtered through the soil.

It’s a whole treatment process happening right in your backyard! 🏡

Understanding how your septic system works is the first step toward taking better care of it—and helping it last longer.

🚸 Safety Starts with Awareness!

Our technicians participate in monthly safety training to stay sharp, prepared, and focused on keeping our communities safe.

With school back in session, this month’s training puts an extra emphasis on driving safety and awareness—watching for school buses, pedestrians, cyclists, and increased activity around school zones.

Because every trip matters, and protecting our kids, our crews, and our communities is always a priority. 💚
