Did you know the first roller shades were made out of paper and hand-painted? They were rolled up by hand and tied with string. No motors. No remotes. Just elbow grease and a good knot.

It is wild to think our industry started with paper, brushes and twine, and now we are calibrating torque settings and syncing to smart homes. The goal is still the same though: control the light and make the space work better.

There is real respect for the craftspeople who started it all, and for everyone still getting their hands dirty to make clean finishes happen today. We have come a long way, and the details still matter.

If your shade only works when you sweet-talk it, you might be running a “vintage” setup. Call it what it is: time for an upgrade.

15 years old and still working, but ready for an upgrade.

We replaced an existing roller shade with a new system featuring updated fabric and a much quieter motor. First photo shows the shade before install. Second shows the new shade fully down.

The difference in light is immediate. The room warms up and takes on this golden tone that completely changes how the space feels.

We had a great time at the International Window Coverings Expo (IWCE) this year!

Chris James and Abigayle Beckish spent the day on the floor connecting with vendors, seeing what's new in the industry, and having the kind of in-person conversations that just can't be replicated over a screen.
