As lead designer and builder for the Mermaid Cottage, one of my most important roles was to provide support and encouragement for the client and fellow team member, Ms. Cummings, in helping her create the dream retreat that she aspired for.
By developing this simple form and layout, and then integrating design ideas from designer Stephen Belie, this structure became a small but ample canvas for Ms. Cummings considerable talents in the decorative arts, both in the hand crafted tile details seen on the outside of the structure and her choices of fabrics and colors on the interior.
As builder and craftsman for the project, tasked with creating structure, including forms and spaces, I paid careful attention to interior and exterior woodwork, work highlighted in the Kitchen Cabinets, Olive’s Loft and the stairway. I am proud to add it to my list of other whimsical and dreamscape designs that I have done in the past, and have planned for the near future.
