🌲 Welcome to the team, Sam Bowers!

Sam joins Sitework Studios as a landscape designer, bringing experience from Sun Valley, Idaho, where he worked on high-end residential and resort development, and northern Utah, where he took on everything from subdivisions to airports and cemeteries.

A Georgia native and grad, Sam studied Landscape Architecture at while running for the Bulldogs. First Team All-SEC in 2022, and he still holds the UGA school records in the mile and the 1500. 🏃‍♂️

The Southern Appalachians brought him back south, along with the planting palette he grew up with. When he is not at his desk, he is in the mountains running, biking, or skiing. ⛰️

We are glad you are here, Sam. Go Dawgs! 🐾

Ground has officially been broken in Madison County.

On August 7, our team joined county leadership, project partners, and community members at the site of the new Madison County Public Services Complex for a groundbreaking ceremony. A little rain did not dampen the moment. If anything, it felt fitting for a project rooted so firmly in this place.

Sitework Studios is proud to be part of the design team bringing this civic landmark to life, working alongside Vannoy Construction , LS3P ASSOCIATES LTD. and Civil Design Concepts. What began on paper is now taking shape in the earth itself, with grading underway and the first shovels turned. 🪏

Projects like this one are why we do this work. A courthouse and public services complex is more than a building. It is where a community conducts its business, resolves its disputes, and shows up for one another. Getting the site right—how people arrive, how the building meets the land, how the grounds hold up over decades—is a responsibility we take seriously.

Congratulations to Madison County.

We are looking forward to watching this one rise.

Even landscape architects need a little greenery at the office. 🌿

Walter and Susannah took it upon themselves to give our Asheville studio a proper refresh — new plantings inside and out, including a rooftop terrace that's now officially the best seat in the house.

Turns out when you put two plant people in a nursery together, good things happen.

Completed in May 2025, the Bunny Mellon Greenhouse at Southern Highlands Reserve has now had just over a year to grow into itself. Our team returned to the site last week, and the transformation is remarkable.

The plantings have grown in beautifully, softening the space and bringing the design intent to life. Just as important is the work happening inside the greenhouse: propagating Red Spruce (Picea rubens), a native, protected species that plays a key role in the Reserve's mission to restore high-elevation Southern Appalachian forest ecosystems. The rain garden, meanwhile, has been put through its paces by more than a full season of storms and continues to perform exactly as designed, a great reminder of why thoughtful stormwater planning matters as much as the plantings themselves.

Sitework Studios was proud to partner with Southern Highlands Reserve, Gardens for Living, and the team at Van Wingerden Greenhouses in Mills River, NC on this project. Seeing a design mature into a living, functioning landscape a year out is one of the best parts of this work.

This year was the 42nd Cullowhee Native Plant Conference, and it turned out to be the last to be held at Western Carolina University.

Matt attended his first conference in 1997, as a grad student at UGA. He didn't know it then, but that weekend planted something that's stayed with him his entire career. Nearly 30 years later, he can point to Cullowhee as one of the most formative experiences of his life as a landscape architect — the people, the plant walks, the late-night conversations that turned into lifelong friendships and professional relationships. 🌿

The conference is moving on from Cullowhee and adopting a new name: the Southeastern Native Plant Conference. They're actively looking for a new home for 2027 and beyond, and they're asking the community, past, present, and future, to help shape what comes next.

If this conference has meant anything to you over the years, We'd encourage you to get involved. They're collecting venue ideas, looking for volunteers, and taking input through their site: southeasternnativeplantconference.com

Here's to whatever comes next for this incredible gathering.

A little look at office life.

Our location in downtown Asheville comes with a balcony overlooking the city, which is where a lot of the good stuff happens: team collaboration, lunch outside, and the occasional tour for clients visiting from out of town.

On Fridays, the drum circle in Pritchard Park drifts up from below, sending us into the weekend. 🪘

Some projects begin long before the ribbon is cut.

Our journey with this site started with a master plan for The City of Mount Airy, NC — a vision to transform the historic Sparger Building of Spencer Mill into something the community never had before. It took courage and conviction to bet on that vision, and we are grateful to Sunhouse Hospitality for taking that chance on this historic restoration and transformation.

Years later, that belief has become a reality. The Balladeer Hotel — Mt. Airy's first historic hotel and proud member of Marriott's Tribute Portfolio — now stands as a destination that honors the past while welcoming the future of Downtown Mount Airy.

We are proud to have played a role in that story alongside , , and .

Small towns hold extraordinary potential, and projects like this one prove it. 💫

Breaking Ground at Belcrest at Biltmore Park!

We're thrilled to celebrate the groundbreaking of Belcrest at Biltmore Park — a stunning new 357-home residential community coming to one of Asheville's most desirable locations. Developed by Biltmore Farms and KETTLER, this inspiring neighborhood places residents steps from the shops, restaurants, and offices of Biltmore Park Town Square, all framed by breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Sitework Studios is proud to serve as landscape architect, designing the exterior amenities and landscapes that will make Belcrest a place people truly love to call home. Alongside our talented partners at WGLA Engineering and Axiom Architecture, we can't wait to see this vision take shape - with residents expected to arrive by late 2028. 🏡✨
