April is National Welding Month
Each April, National Welding Month is recognized across the country to honor the skilled professionals who help build and maintain the world around us. Established by the American Welding Society in 1996, this month highlights the importance of welding in industries such as construction, manufacturing, energy, and infrastructure.
Welding has been around for thousands of years, but its role became especially critical during the industrial age and continues to be essential today. From buildings and bridges to pipelines and equipment, welders play a key role in keeping our country running.
Today, there are approximately 771,000 welding professionals in the United States, with around 370,000 holding certifications. The demand for welders continues to grow, with hundreds of thousands of new professionals needed in the coming years as many experienced workers approach retirement.
Welding is also a diverse and evolving field. It is used in everything from heavy construction to aerospace and even artistic design. Some welders work in extreme environments, including underwater, while others use advanced technology and robotics in modern fabrication.
National Welding Month is a great time to recognize the hard work and skill of welders everywhere and to highlight the importance of training the next generation to carry the trade forward.
