Limestone County Remains Alabama's Fastest-Growing County for Seventh Consecutive Year

U.S. Census Bureau data shows county population surpasses 122,000, adding nearly 4,000 residents in 2025

LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. — For the seventh year in a row, Limestone County kept its title as Alabama’s fastest-growing county in 2025, according to data released today by the U.S. Census Bureau.

The county’s population reached 122,928, an increase of 3,877 residents, or 3.3%, over 2024, continuing a sustained growth streak that has added more than 19,000 people since the 2020 Census.

The figures cement Limestone County’s standing as the 10th most populous county in Alabama. Ninth-ranked Morgan County, home to Decatur, now leads by just 3,555 residents. Morgan County added roughly 1,000 residents in 2025 compared to Limestone’s nearly 3,900, putting Limestone County on pace to surpass its neighbor and claim the ninth spot as soon as this year.

“This isn’t a streak we take for granted,” said Bethany Shockney, President and CEO of the Limestone County Economic Development Association. (LCEDA) “Every person who chose to put down roots here reflects the work our community has done to build a place where businesses and industries grow and families thrive. This growth is the result of strategic investment, a strong workforce, and the kind of quality of life you can’t manufacture."

Shockney said the economic development efforts of LCEDA will remain focused on ensuring that growth continues to benefit every corner of Limestone County.

Limestone County’s 18.7% total population increase since 2020 outpaces state and national averages, driven in part by major economic development wins that have positioned the county as one of the Southeast’s most competitive industrial markets. The county’s workforce pipeline, being a part of the Huntsville Metro, and quality infrastructure have attracted billions in capital investment over recent years.

“Limestone County is growing because people see what we see every day; a community that invests in its future,” said Collin Daly, Chair of the Limestone County Commission. “Our commission is committed to making sure that as our population grows, our infrastructure, public services, and quality of life grow with it."
