Chimney Sweep Scams Are Real. Don't Get Burned! 🔥🚩

It's chimney season, and while there are plenty of reputable professionals out there, some operators use questionable tactics to take advantage of homeowners.

Five red flags to watch for:

🚩 Prices too good to be true. A bargain cleaning can turn into unexpected charges or expensive repair recommendations.

🚩 Immediate availability. Same-day appointments during the fall rush aren't necessarily suspicious, but they're worth asking about.

🚩 Uncertified technicians. Don't just ask whether the company is certified. Ask about the credentials of the person actually doing the work.

🚩 Google reviews that don't add up. A new company with hundreds of reviews? Check whether they're from local customers for actual chimney services.

🚩 Pressure to approve expensive repairs. Ask for photos, written explanations, and a second opinion when appropriate.

These aren't automatic proof of a scam, but they're good reasons to do your homework.
Your chimney is too important to trust to just anyone.

Project Chimney is CSIA Certified, and we believe homeowners deserve honest recommendations and qualified professionals.

Sometimes finding a chimney leak takes a little detective work. 💧🔎

Most leak issues we see involve common repairs that don't cost a lot to correct. But then there are the tricky ones.

When the source isn't obvious, we use a process of elimination to narrow down the possibilities. And when a leak is especially difficult to find, we pull out all the stops—including water intrusion testing like we're doing in this video.

The goal isn't to guess. It's to find the real problem and fix what's actually needed.

Trying to get the house ready to sell? Don't let a quick fix create a bigger problem. 😬

We originally found a damaged termination cap at this home. In an effort to get it repaired quickly before the sale, it was replaced with a dryer vent cap.

That's not an acceptable substitute—and it created a serious safety hazard.

We went back and installed the correct new termination cap. The three photos tell the story: damaged → wrong fix → fixed right.

You may not be using your fireplace this summer—but your chimney still deserves attention.

After a full burn season, creosote remains inside your chimney. Leaving it there through months of heat and humidity can make it more difficult to remove and leave your system less prepared for next season.

Scheduling during the warm months helps you:
• Remove creosote before it sits all summer
• Reduce fire risk for the next burning season
• Keep your chimney in better long-term condition

Taking care of it now means one less thing to worry about when cooler weather returns.

If you used your fireplace this past winter, summer is a great time to schedule your chimney inspection and cleaning.

Warm Weather Chimney Tip #3

Wildlife Season Is Starting 🐦

As temperatures rise, birds and small animals begin looking for nesting spots.

An unused chimney is warm, protected, and attractive — especially if it hasn’t been serviced.

Blockages from nesting material can:
• Restrict airflow
• Cause smoke backup
• Create fire hazards

A warm-weather inspection ensures your system is clean and clear.
