Ever wonder what’s hiding inside those little mud nests around your home? Swipe to find out! 👀

These are mud dauber nests! Mud daubers are solitary wasps that build their nests out of mud, commonly attaching them to brick, siding, garages, porches, and other protected areas.

On this job, the nests were removed and the surrounding area was treated to help control activity around the structure.

While mud daubers are generally less aggressive than many other wasps, their nests can quickly become an unwanted addition to your home or business.

Bald-faced Hornet Nest Removal

Despite their name, bald-faced hornets are actually a type of aerial yellowjacket!

They build large, enclosed paper nests that are most commonly found in trees and shrubs, but they can also be found around homes and other structures. Their nests start small in the spring and can grow significantly throughout the summer as the colony gets larger.

Bald-faced hornets can be beneficial because they prey on other insects, but they are also very protective of their nest. If they feel that the colony is being threatened, they can become aggressive and sting repeatedly.

Because of this, we do not recommend trying to remove an active nest yourself, especially one that is in an area where people or pets regularly spend time.

Here’s a look at one of our recent bald-faced hornet nest removals! Our technician treated the colony and safely removed the nest.

These small flies lay their eggs in the moist, organic buildup that collects inside sink drains and other plumbing areas. Once the eggs hatch, the larvae feed and develop within that buildup.

American Cockroaches in Georgia

If you’ve spotted a BIG roach around your home lately, you’re not alone!

American cockroaches are one of the large cockroach species commonly found throughout Georgia. Adults can reach around 2 inches long and are typically reddish-brown to chestnut in color, with a lighter-colored border behind the head.

Why are we seeing them in summer?

Georgia’s warm, humid summers provide plenty of the moisture and warmth cockroaches need to thrive. American cockroaches prefer dark, damp environments and are commonly associated with areas like sewers, basements, crawlspaces, drains, and other protected spaces.

They’re also primarily nocturnal, so you’re much more likely to catch one wandering around after dark.

Why do they come inside your home?

American cockroaches can occasionally make their way indoors while searching for moisture, food, or shelter. Cracks around doors and windows, gaps around pipes and utility lines, and other small openings can give them an easy way inside.

Seeing an occasional American cockroach doesn’t necessarily mean you have an indoor infestation, but frequent sightings are worth paying attention to!

A few ways to make your home less inviting:
• Seal cracks and gaps around the exterior
• Repair leaks and reduce excess moisture
• Keep food and trash properly sealed
• Reduce clutter and potential hiding places
• Keep an eye on damp areas around the home

Fun fact: Despite their name, American cockroaches aren’t actually native to America! They’ve simply become very well established throughout the United States, including here in Georgia.
