You're making a significant career move. Maybe you're in a new country. New industry. New role. Different sector…
And when someone asks "So, what do you do?" you freeze. 😅
Here's what I'm seeing: Too many professionals can't articulate their value in the new arena. They talk about what they used to do. They list their old titles. They hope the recruiter or networking connection will just...get it.
They don't.
When you can't clearly explain how your background translates to what you're pursuing now, or your pitch is too generic or even overwhelming, you leave people confused. And confused people don't hire you. They don't refer you. They move on.
Your narrative is everything in a transition. 💡
Here's what you need to nail down before your next interview or networking conversation:
1️⃣ The bridge. Connect the dots.
How does your past experience actually connect to what you're doing now? Don't skip this. "I spent 8 years in operations at a Fortune 500 company managing complex processes. Now I'm applying that systems thinking to tech implementation." That's a bridge. That makes sense.
2️⃣ The why. Why this move? Why now? This isn't about running from something, it's about running toward something. Be clear on that distinction. Recruiters can smell desperation. They respect intention.
3️⃣ The proof. What have you already done to prove you're serious about this transition? A certification? A project? Volunteer work? Anything that shows you're not just talking about it.
Your narrative isn't about your past. It's about how your past prepares you for your future.
Get clear on that, and watch how differently people respond. 🚀
