- Everyone loves to watch sparks fly! Cutting the steel for the leg edge caps on this last piece of , matching set for an old friend (others posted on 16 June 2022). Once those are ready, I can move onto final finish work and assembly. This one is a full custom as some of the others were custom alterations. Always good to share one's skills with friends!

- Although this bass has been really stubborn (it's almost like this bass did not want to be built), I refuse to give up on it and am back to finishing it. We had a mind-melding session the other day and I think we have an understanding and are ready to move forward. Specs - 35 inch scale, neck-through, 5 string with a & neck and body laminate, fingerboard top and accents.

- My job here is done πŸ˜„ - always nice to give an instrument a second life at making music (last two pics final product). I decided that the was not going to be enough so I decided to spray some . That means prep work such as taping everything off. I learned a while back the adhesive on this green tape from 3M is less likely to burn into lacquer or alcohol based finishes. After laying down a little bit if lacquer, I did a quick wet sand with 1500 grit paper, took it to the buffer, and this repair job is done. I will now get the strings up to pitch and take it back to the shop.

- It is always nice to have a section of your shop that is your own private hardware store. You never know what you might need. But when it is your store, you are the stock person, the cleanup crew, the moneybags, etc. Looks like I need to get to work 😁😈.

- Rough cutting for a new order of special bases for Frabel Studio and Gallery (https://frabelglass.com/). This will be followed by days of sanding 😡. In the last couple of pics, I am spraying the first couple of layers of clear coat and after it dries . . . more sanding 😡 . . . clear coat . . . more sanding 😡 . . . clear coat . . . you get the picture πŸ˜†.

Work'n'it - Now that the repair is set for the Wendell's Music acoustic, it is time to work on the finish. It is not in this guitar's cards to look brand new again but I can do something to make sure it is not bare wood. Older like this one are known for having a or finish. A quick swab test with some isopropyl alcohol confirms my assumption. Therefore, I made an application pad and applied some shellac. I will do this a couple of times and then decide if I should spray some lacquer through an air brush.

- It doesn't take long for a nice, new area to look like pic 2 πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«πŸŒͺ. Recently fixed up an area of the shop that needed a serious upgrade via a new workbench so that I could effectively utilize it. This is a constant effort of improving shop infrastructure and working out within one's shop. The behind the scenes.

- update on The Brian Cameron's custom build. In the first pic, I am shaping both the body and a template at the same time that could be used in the future to make more. When re-sawing a billet of quilted maple for the top veneer of the guitar, there is always bound to be cutoffs and parts of the wood where the blade gets squirrelly. Personally, I hate wasting - natural resources that are limited in supply. Therefore, the other three pics show the cut off pieces of quilted maple that will be used as a custom and cap. On the final pic, I am hoping to get the headstock cap from the blue circled area. But if I can't, I have an additional piece of wood.

brings an update on the repair for Wendell's Music. It can be really tricky working through the sound hole of an acoustic guitar. I found 3 loose braces that had to be re-glued. I also had to add a new miniature brace (top right in the picture) to compensate for an original brace that was missing a portion as well as secure the repaired area from underneath. With that and gluing in seven to mend the cracks, all of the internal repair work is finished. I can now move on to trying to touchup the finish. To see the initial start on this repair, check out my post on May 27, 2022.

- I continue to have the honor, having started a couple of years ago, to complete contract work for Frabel Studio and Gallery. I make some of their special order bases on which they display their amazing . If you haven't checked out the legend - Hans Frabel - then I highly recommend you take a minute and go to https://frabelglass.com/.

"Hans Godo FrΓ€bel is one of the first American flame- workers to have been part of the major art movement. In the early seventies, he produced sculptures in the pop-aesthetic that set him apart from other glass artists. Now 50 years later, he continues to perfect his craft creating glass art at Frabel Studio. Frabel’s work embodies a host of mixed expressions, which find their voice in the enormous diversity of his art."
