This is a good reason we try to make people aware of the dangers of cesspools. This one was 25 feet from the ground to water and the water was 20 feet deep with an uncertain amount of sludge, it was 6 feet across at the top and then had caved in to be over 15 feet across about 1/4 of the way down, it took over 40 yards of sand to fill it in. A cesspool is simply a drilled or hand dug hole for sewerage waste where city sewer is not available, cesspools haven’t been installed since the 90s. We now in install septic systems that are safe for homeowners and the environment.
