We’ve been in a lot of homes across Maine lately, and we need to talk about something important.
Homeowners are telling us some pretty shocking stories.
We’ve heard about single-zone heat pump quotes coming in so high that people felt like upgrading wasn’t even an option anymore. In a few cases, homeowners told us after 1–2 quotes… they were ready to give up entirely and go without heat pumps.
That shouldn’t be happening.
We’ve also seen:
❌ Oversized systems that don’t run efficiently
❌ Multi-zone setups across multiple floors when they’re not needed
❌ Poor indoor unit placement with bad airflow direction
All of this leads to higher costs, lower performance, and a bad experience — and it gives the entire industry a bad name.
On the flip side, we’ve had homeowners get our estimate and realize…
👉 They can afford it
👉 There are better options
👉 The system can actually be designed correctly
In a few cases, that realization was emotional — because they had already counted themselves out.
Here’s the truth:
Not all quotes are created equal.
System design, sizing, and layout matter just as much as the equipment itself.
If you’re considering a heat pump:
✔ Get multiple quotes
✔ Ask questions about system sizing and design
✔ Make sure the solution fits your home — not just a sales pitch
At Laird’s HVAC – The Heat Pump Kings 👑, our goal is simple:

You might be surprised what’s actually possible.
