The Central Savannah River Area surrounding Augusta now has a world-class electrical apprenticeship training facility that rivals anything in the United States. Apprenticeship Director Donald Kelly and IBEW 1579 Business Manager J.R. Richardson, as well as contractors, students, and members of the Chamber of Commerce were on hand for the 2026 ribbon cutting. For those people who apply and are accepted into the apprenticeship program, this facility provided training and hands-on experience needed to build the skills to become a journeyman electrician. This tuition-free program is a joint effort between the IBEW Local 1579 and the Contractors Association to help train the workforce needed for the many landmark projects coming to the CSRA area.
