Over the past few years, I've spent a lot of time thinking about the ways cultural identity is carried across generations—through architecture, stories, traditions, etc. so I'm excited to share that I had the opportunity to participate in Threads of Us, a portrait exhibition by Sanyu Creative Studio opening June 19 at The Residency in Minneapolis.
The exhibition explores cultural identity, belonging, and the ways we carry home with us through clothing, objects, traditions, and memory. Through portraits of immigrants, diaspora communities, and Indigenous peoples in Minnesota, it highlights the many ways people navigate heritage, place, and contemporary American life.
Since my Fulbright research explored connections between cultural heritage, migration, and identity, this project felt especially meaningful. Being in conversation with others about the stories, traditions, and objects that connect us to our histories has been both eye-opening and deeply affirming.
I'll be attending the opening reception on June 19 (and wearing my bunad), and I'll also be participating in the community dialogue on June 27. Both events are free and open to the public.
