The ultimate low maintenance breath of fresh air! This garden is easy easy easy and looks great all the time thanks to the addition of artificial turf and drought tolerant native and adapted plants. The home wraps around this part of the yard, so these material and plant choices not only give them a large outdoor extension of their indoor space, but also add year-round greenery and pops of color that accent the beautiful greenbelt beyond.

It's critical to establish a solid plan before installing your new landscape. We begin by creating a detailed site plan that captures existing features, highlights problem areas to solve, and incorporates the new features you want to include. We take all of these pieces and build your bubble diagram, the first layer of your landscape design. This is like a floor plan, highlighting the flow of traffic through your property, and showing the relative size and scale of the main features we'll design.

This stage of the process is so exciting to me because it ensures that we are checking off the items on your wish list while highlighting areas where we can add unique features that really make your project shine.

What would your include in your bubble diagram?

Say hello to a freshly installed front entry and some seriously glorious new sod at our project!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Our goal here was to create a simple, zen-like garden that would pop against the stunning walls of this home. We used bamboo muhly, two types of flowering sage, and evergreen dwarf yews to add softness, color, and drama without enticing the numerous deer that live in the nearby woods.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A lush lawn for family play time (and deer lounging) and some colorful planters near the front door help this landscape blend in with the natural areas beyond while still feeling just like home.

Two of the most common problems our clients struggle with here in Austin are drainage and shade. They often go hand in hand, each causing the other to get worse over time. Our shallow soil and heavy rains can quickly cause issues with compaction and erosion, especially in shaded areas where it's harder to grow grass or other plants that can secure the soil in place. These clients were experiencing all of these issues in spades. Even in lighter rains, their back yard turned into a lake.. Standing water took too long to drain which encouraged mud and mosquitos and killed off what little grass remained.

What they wanted was a comfortable place to spend time outdoors with their dog and grandkids, to work in the garden, and to entertain family and friends in a comfortable and welcoming setting that reflected who they are and how they live - an extension of their indoor space.

Our solution was to regrade the back yard, adding a catch drain in the lowest spot to get any extra water out of there. We added structure with edging and gravel to control water flow and hold the soil, new sod in the sunnier areas, and wrapped it all around with native and adapted plantings that love shade.

Over time, root growth from the new plantings will improve the soil's capacity to absorb water, will improve soil health, and will hold the soil in place. Without a flood of water to drown it, the grass will be able to thrive and grow, doing the same things in the lawn area.

Now, these clients have a balanced and sustainable back yard ecosystem that will continue to improve over time.

If you're sick of worrying about problems in your landscape and are ready for a redesign, we'd love to help! Click the link in our bio to schedule a free call.

There's nothing like one whale's tongue agave, let alone a whole row of them! These beauties always look gorgeous and serene no matter what the weather throws at them. They are one of the few agaves that have remained unharmed by both our extreme freezes and extreme high temps, making them your new best friend!

Can this be the same yard??It's hard to imagine that before we began, this sloped back yard was filled with weeds and stubborn vines. We knew that as excited as we were to get to designing a beautiful new garden for these clients, we had to take care of this first.

We went all in on site prep for this project, with a lot of time spent pulling and digging out the existing plants, amending and feeding the soil, addressing irrigation and drainage, and finally installing the new plants.

It's critical to take these first steps before jumping in on installing the new garden, because without this holistic approach the new plants would struggle and the old weeds would thrive.

It's now 2 years later and our clients have a happy, healthy, LOW MAINTENANCE garden which provides them with privacy, beautiful views out of their picture windows, a pollinator-friendly environment for local critters, and a healthy soil ecosystem. And oh yeah - no more weeds!

It's time for round 2 of our our Park Hollow project tour!We take a closer look at the front flower beds. These beds are either shaded by the beautiful oak trees in front of the house, or sitting out in blazing sun. We cleaned up the lines of the flower beds and filled them with plants that not only will pop with texture throughout the year, but which will bring the front of the house together with a lush, cohesive look.

Sticking with textural greenery and lower growing plants sets off the trees and the newly updated front walls, and a path to the driveway makes it easy to travel throughout the front yard.

Many thanks to these wonderful clients and !

Round 1 of before and after shots of our newly completed Park Hollow project!! I'm so excited to give you a tour of this exciting project. Starting at the street, we reimagined the entry to the home, adding a glorious floating concrete walkway and stairs for drama and easy access to the front door. We softened all of those hard edges with native grasses and drought tolerant plants, pulling visitors into the garden from their first step onto the property.

Thanks to these amazing clients and for making it all happen!

It's HOT OUT Texas!! Now that summer weather is officially here that might mean that gardens start looking dry and crispy...but it doesn't have to! We focus on planting drought tolerant, native plants that thrive in our furnace-like summer heat. So instead of brown you can enjoy greenery and color all year round.
