Great design starts with listening. Every site has a story: the slope of the land, the direction of the light, the trees that were there long before we arrived. At Clayton Korte, we believe the best architecture doesn’t override its environment, it honors it. Today we’re celebrating the places that shaped us, and recommitting to building in ways that give back to them. Happy Earth Day. 🌎

With its towering oaks and wandering peacocks, the Inn at Green Pastures is a place where time slows down the moment you arrive. We designed every detail of the architecture and interiors to respond to the history and landscape of this very special site: a modern retreat on a historic five-acre estate in the heart of Bouldin Creek, Austin. From 63 carefully considered guest rooms to a private pool, event spaces, a fitness center, and Henry’s all-day bar and restaurant, the property carries forward a legacy of gracious hospitality in a way that feels rooted in its place.

Located on a 150-acre vineyard in California, the Cayucos Ridge Barn is a self-sustaining structure clad in weathering steel. Designed with sustainability in mind, it incorporates reclaimed materials and passive climate strategies to create a resilient, practical space that supports farming activities while blending into the surrounding Central Coast environment.

Perched above 50 acres of vineyard and surrounded by sweeping hillside views, the Vineyard Residence is designed in seamless harmony with its landscape. Thoughtfully nestled into the natural slope, its primary living spaces sit at grade, creating an effortless flow between indoors and out.

Inside, a quiet, refined palette celebrates natural beauty and craft. White oak paneling, hand-troweled plaster, and custom millwork in oak and walnut bring warmth without ornamentation, complemented by rich burnished concrete floors. Slab stone and blackened steel appear as intentional, modern accents, adding just the right amount of contrast and texture.

Furnishings echo the architecture with clean, purposeful lines that keep the space grounded and cohesive. Every detail works together to create a calm, sophisticated environment.

We’re thrilled the project is a Interior Design Magazine Best of Year Awards project finalist.

Congratulations to the entire team!

Many congratulations to our clients and the entire project team on the successful opening of Leona Botanical Cafe & Bar! Today is the official opening, and we are very proud of the project and grateful to all of our partners who made it possible.

“This project is about experiencing and celebrating the landscape while creating a tranquil and inviting hospitality environment. The architecture is essentially part of the garden. It is immersed in it, looks out to it, and invites it into the building.”

Happening this weekend on America ByDesign!

Discover the Saxum Vineyard Barn in Paso Robles, California. Built from reclaimed oil field pipe and powered entirely off-grid by its photovoltaic roof, this is a building defined by restraint and performance. It’s made to serve the land, not stand apart from it.

“We designed this barn to do multiple things exceptionally well: produce power, store equipment, and consume as little as possible—materially and energetically.” —Brian Korte FAIA

Last week’s trip to High Point Market was full of new materials, thoughtful craftsmanship, and fresh ideas. Our interiors team came back endlessly inspired, and we’re excited to share new furniture and finish discoveries with our clients—as well as incorporate new vendors and products across both our architecture and interiors projects.
