I’m always a little nervous going back to a home I designed in 2003. I want to hope it still stands the test of time.

What I noticed was a richness of the materials and composition - more varied than most homes today, even the ones I design.

I think at this early point in my career I was trying out new concepts, and new materials. In this case the Soaring Wings of copper that give this home it’s name.

Paired with fossilized Texas limestone and water that intersects the home. It was nice to see the same owner in the home with his family and friends after all those years.

Greg turned 80 and you’d never know it. Yes, the guy with the round glasses. :)

Some of the aspects of the design of this house may seem a bit arbitrary, but they have personality. Those are the types of homes I like to design. I think that is also what defines our ideal client: someone who has a point of view and isn’t afraid of expressing it. And wants us to express it for them.

A shared equestrian vision, brought carefully into form on the shores of the Blanco River.

I think it’s fitting that our new house reminds me of a greenhouse.

Because a home should be a place where things grow.

People
Connection
Healing
Version after version of yourself

But a greenhouse only works if what’s inside is alive.

Otherwise the same walls that could nurture you can also trap you.

A home without growth, honesty and repair can quietly become a prison.

But a home where people are willing to evolve together?

That becomes sacred.

One of the most dramatic and turbulent aspects of building a home is spraying the concrete on a pool shell. Never a dull moment but especially exciting on a monster pool like this (60’ long).
