I ❤️ COLOR
Annuals are a great way to add color to your garden. Sure, they’re “temporary” but gardens are the most ephemeral art form there is. Enjoy this moment.

TREE HELP
I want to highly recommend you have Nick at Texas Tree Doctors come out and evaluate and treat your trees soon. The past few months have been rough on trees, especially since we are in a prolonged drought. This kind of stress can really impact our larger, mature trees. And trees are the backbone of our landscapes here in Austin. We need them to provide shade, beauty and comfort for our homes. As we head into the spring season it’s important they have what they need before this summer arrives. Nick has quickly come to several of our projects and helped provide expert advice and treatments at a very fair price. I’ve included his link in my bio for faster reference. Your trees will thank you.

FOUNTAIN
I designed and built this fountain years ago for a very sweet client who wanted her outdoor area to match the refinement and level of taste of her fabulous interiors. “You need a fountain,” I remember saying. And not just a little fountain, but something large enough to accommodate a small dinner party of friends to sit around. Or maybe just her on a beautiful day. I’m always trying to bring people into their outdoor spaces. At the very least I want them to pause at the window and really enjoy a beautiful composition. A lot of my work is very contemporary but really each job is unique and custom for the style of the home, and the person themselves. This fit her and her home to a T. A few years ago she moved to another home, and I found these beautiful images on a real estate website. For many of my projects, I may never see the landscape after I’m gone. But with realtors, I get to see my creations years later, when everything is grown in, and it truly makes my heart sing.

First we added the magnolia, then I selected this hand made Italian terracotta container. Courtyard dreams are coming true. Stay tuned for the glow up.

COLD SNAP
As we prepare for a cold snap, here’s a few things to do.
1. Water all your plants thoroughly. Yes, we MAY get some rain, but hand watering with a hose at the roots is by far the most effective way to ensure that your plants stay hydrated and warm. Sounds counter intuitive but wet soil acts as an insulator. Extra rain will be great but don’t count on it being enough to soak the roots.
2.Turn OFF your irrigation system. This relieves pressure on the water in the pipes.
3.Wrap or cover hose faucets. This is what most people do. I like the hard shell or the little blanket they sell. But even newspaper or a towel with a plastic bag over it will work.
4.Cover any favorite plants. I’m not usually a fan of having to cover a bunch of plants BUT it does provide some protection and I’ve seen it work wonders when I thought it wouldn’t do anything.
5.Bring inside any tender plants you can easily move. A dolly is helpful. Don’t pick up anything heavy of course. And bend with your legs. Haha. Trust me, even a small object can pull a muscle in your back.
