Not everyone will recognize the man in this photo but his name is John Neutzling, and his impact runs deep.
Back in 2009, John was a Melde client. At the time, I was a carpenter for Melde, framing his house. But John saw something in me I didn’t yet fully see in myself. What started as a simple connection turned into something much more—he became a mentor, a coach, a friend, and someone who helped shape the trajectory of my life and our company.
For the past decade, John generously gave his time, wisdom, and encouragement. What Melde is today is, in many ways, a reflection of his belief in people and his willingness to invest in them.
He was sharp, funny, and full of life. Always quick with a joke, often chiming in on our posts, and never missing a chance to tell me to turn my hat around if it was on backwards.
When we received the news of his unexpected passing, we were heartbroken. He was only 73, still active, still pouring into others, and still making an impact. This is a huge loss for his family, for us, and for everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
There is a time for everything—a time to rejoice and a time to mourn. Today is a day to mourn.
But more than that, it’s a day to honor a man who saw potential in others and chose to call it out.
