In the age of AI it’s kind of a no-brainer to give homeowners a clearer picture of what their project might look like before breaking ground. Fence, pergola, retaining wall—being able to visualize the finished result makes the whole process easier and leads to better decisions.

At Paragon we use a combination of design tools and AI to put together project renderings. We don’t do this every single time, because some projects are pretty straightforward. But we often do custom jobs, where a standard style might not do the trick.

It’s also not about running a thousand prompts until something looks exact. It’s about giving you a realistic idea of what we’re going to build so we’re aligned before anything gets started.

If you want to explore ideas on your own before reaching out to anyone, take a photo of your home, head over to an image-generating AI tool, and ask it to mock up different fence styles and heights. It’s a surprisingly useful way to figure out what direction you’re going. Keep in mind a lot of those tools limit how many they’ll generate for free.

And this is also important: just because someone can produce a polished rendering doesn’t mean they know how to build what’s in it. Always look at real project photos. Ask questions. Make sure the company you hire can actually deliver what they’re showing you.

Every photo on our website and social media feature real projects. No stock images, no AI-generated project photos. What you see is what we do.

Where old meets new. 🤝

Sometimes what’s already there is working fine, it just needs a little more to complete the picture. This homeowner’s existing horizontal gate and lumber was in great shape, although the posts and retaining wall were leaning. He wasn’t looking for a replacement, just an addition down the side yard that would match what he already had.

So that’s what we built. New horizontal cedar fence sections framed with galvanized steel posts that tie into the existing gate. We also repaired his prior fence and retaining wall so it’ll stay straight this time.

Fresh cedar next to weathered cedar is always a striking contrast, but once the new sections age in, the whole thing will read as one cohesive fence line.

Not every fence project needs to start from scratch. Sometimes the right move is knowing what to keep.

If you want an honest take on whether your fence needs to be repaired, replaced, or just added to, give us a shout.

Things are coming together on several projects! The rain brings amazing plant blooms, but also slows things down on existing projects. Today, here’s a peek at 1 of 3 steel gates with perforated steel insets that we’re fabricating. Behind-the-scenes of this build coming soon!

Bull panel. Cattle panel. Hog panel. Ranch panel. Welded wire fence.

Nobody quite agrees on what to call this style of fence — even people in the industry use the terms interchangeably.

At the core, all of these are the same concept: heavy gauge welded wire panels — the kind originally designed for livestock containment — framed in wood, steel, or a combination of both. The name usually just depends on which animal the panel was originally designed around.

The short version:

🐂 Bull panel — heaviest gauge, largest grid spacing, what we use most often for residential projects
🐄 Cattle panel — very similar to bull panel, the terms are largely interchangeable
🐷 Hog panel — tighter grid at the bottom, larger at the top, good for smaller dogs

For most Austin homeowners, the name of the panel matters less than the gauge of the wire, the size of the grid, and the quality of the framing holding it all together. A bull panel fence is only as good as the posts, footings, and hardware behind it.

We also get into wood vs. steel framing, perforated steel as an alternative, and what to ask about when you’re comparing quotes.

All of these fences and railings were personally managed by Paragon’s owner, including prior to Paragon’s founding showing his extensive knowledge and experience working with this fence style.

Let’s bend some steel. 🔩

This is the SWAG Off Road tubing bender — it’s made to handle thick steel without breaking a sweat. In this clip, we’re running ¼” steel for paver pathway edging through it, and bends through it like it’s nothing.

Sometimes, our projects call for custom fabrication—curved gate frames, arched fence tops, or decorative bends which allows us to fabricate one-of-a-kind custom builds, or level up automated gate builds with smooth, professional bends. For larger jobs, we partner with fabrication shops.

Other times, we’re able to fabricate in house. And it’s those jobs where this tool comes into play.

If you’re looking for a custom steel gate, fence, or paver pathway, we’re here to help.

Just another reminder that installation matters just as much as the materials you choose!

Vertical fence pickets built flush to the ground are constantly exposed to moisture and insects — leading to premature rot at the base. Elevating the pickets a bit helps tremendously with that. If you don’t want a gap at all, you can also have a rot board installed. It’s treated to resist insects and moisture, keeping your pickets elevated and protected for the long haul.

Just wrapped up this cedar horizontal privacy fence in Austin, and this one had a few extra considerations.

The existing posts had been leaning over time from landscaping pressure. Soil, mulch, and plant beds built up against the fence line will do that. Over time that constant pressure works against the posts until things start to shift.

We got everything pulled back into line, stabilized with galvanized steel posts, and made sure the base is reinforced to hold back the soil and mulch that was causing the problem in the first place.

This one is also getting a stain treatment, so we’ll be posting the before and after once that’s done. Stay tuned!

When it comes to fences and gates in Austin, the sky’s the limit. (Ok, 6-8 feet is technically the limit for most residential yards — but you know what we mean.)

One option a lot of people don’t know about or consider is perforated metal panels.

Whether it’s mild steel, stainless steel, galvanized steel, or aluminum, perforated metal is a sleek, modern alternative to welded wire or bull panel, and it works beautifully for:

✔️ Fences
✔️ Patio or stair railings
✔️ Gates & automated gates

These are just a handful of designs from that can help create fencing that’s both functional and seriously good-looking.

Not all rust is created equal. Let’s get nerdy for a sec. 🤓

Back in the 1930’s, US Steel Corporation set out to build a stronger, more durable steel for the hopper carts hauling iron ore and coal.

What they ended up creating was something they called COR-TEN, a name drawn from its two defining traits: CORrosion resistance and TENsile strength. You’ll also hear it called weathering steel — because it literally weathers to protect itself.

Steel is an alloy — which simply put is just a mix of different metals. And the unique mix in corten (copper, chromium, and more) causes the rust itself to harden and seal against the surface, blocking moisture and oxygen from getting through.

It truly takes on a life of its own. In this video you can see the corten patina after just a few days after install.

Started out dark gray on day 1. Bright orange now. Protected, deepening, and darkening for years to come.

If you’ve ever wanted a fence, gate, or trellis that gets more beautiful with age, corten might be for you.

Board on board on board on board.

Pretty sure it’s no mystery how this fence style got its name.

With a board-on-board fence, each picket is carefully spaced, then another picket is placed over the gap between them, creating a true privacy fence.

This style is excellent for Austin, TX backyards. Only the drones will be able to spot you. 🤙

Jefferson personally managed the design and install of this fence about a half year ago. And as you can see, it’s holding up exactly the way it should.

That comes down to the details:
✔️ Western red cedar pickets
✔️ Cedar cap and trim
✔️ Treated pine rot board
✔️ 2⅜” galvanized steel posts
✔️Wood Defender’s sable brown stain

Every material on that list is there for a reason. The rot board protects the base where moisture does the most damage and lets lawn maintenance w**d whack away without damaging the pickets. The galvanized posts prevent premature rust. The cedar cap keeps water from sitting on top of the pickets. And Wood Defender’s stain helps keep the lumber looking like the day it was built.

If you want a true privacy fence for your yard, we can help with that.
