We heard that today is the last day the sun sets after 7pm here in Austin, TX for the rest of the year.

That sure feels like fall to us. Even if the temps got above 90 degrees again. 😅

As the weather starts to change, things like falling leaves and changing moisture levels can cause long lasting damage to your fence. Some simple maintenance steps can help protect your investment and keep your fence looking its best.

This Corten steel fence does so much more than mark the property line. It works with the landscape around it.

Every detail of this project was thoughtfully considered, from the choice of materials to the way the fence works around existing trees and the natural contours of the property.

Our job was to bring that vision to life through careful planning and craftsmanship. From setting posts to the proper depth to making sure every line in the steel grid was level, the details matter. Especially on a project like this, where the design is meant to complement its surroundings.

The result is a fence that feels right at home in the landscape while doing exactly what it was designed to do.

We’ve just about wrapped up this corten project, so we wanted to show you around a bit.

This one came with plenty of unique challenges, but that’s part of where the fun is.

First, we wanted to preserve the view while working with the natural surroundings. The architects did a great job choosing a style that complements the landscape, and we built the fence to work with — rather than against — the existing trees and landscaping.

In the right areas, we stepped the fence down to preserve the lakeside view while keeping the entire grid perfectly level from the front of the property all the way to the back.

And the attention to detail went literally down to the wire.

Instead of using standard steel welding wire, we used a wire made from the same elements as the corten steel itself. That way, the welds will weather and age along with the rest of the fence for a more uniform, natural finish.

A lot of thought went into making this one look like it belongs here. And we think the finished product speaks for itself.

We replaced this homeowner’s aging wood fence with a Trex composite board-on-board privacy fence with cap-and-trim detailing to create a cleaner, more modern, and longer lasting backdrop around this pool and eliminating the ongoing maintenance that comes with traditional wood.

To bring the entire fence line together, we repaired the existing rock columns and added new matching columns, giving the finished project a much more intentional and cohesive look.

The result is more privacy, less maintenance, and a polished finish that completely elevates this yard. We’ll post up a little behind the scenes of this build soon.

One of the things we love about fence design is that your fence doesn’t necessarily have to look exactly like your neighbor’s, even though you share a property line.

Sometimes the challenge is figuring out how to transition between different heights, materials, and styles in a way that looks intentional from every side.

A little reminder that both sides of a fence don’t have to look the same.

For this project, we built a vertical privacy fence on one side and a vertical shadowbox design on the other.

One neighbor already had a shadowbox fence along their side, and wanted their fence to feel cohesive. The goal was still full privacy from both sides.

It’s one of the things we love about what we do. Figuring out those little puzzles. Sometimes the best solution isn’t picking one style or another—it’s figuring out how to make the fence work for everyone.

Maybe you’ve wondered what the difference is between types of steel. Or how you build a fence that’s level when the yard underneath it definitely isn’t. Or if it’s possible to get the look you want when no one seems to stock what you’re looking for in store.

At Paragon Fence, thinking through questions like these is kind of our forte.

Our goal isn’t to turn over cheap fences as fast as possible. (Even the standard styles we build are to the kind of caliber we’d want in our own yard.) For us, we’d rather slow down and build something we can feel proud of, and that’s actually going to fit your property and lifestyle.

Where does water go when it rains?
How should the posts be set?
What’s going to keep that gate from sagging?
And how do we make the whole thing last as long as possible?

We love us a good ol’ board-and-batten. 👌🏻

This vertical board-and-batten fence was built with Western Red Cedar to create some much-needed privacy from the busy Austin, TX streets surrounding the property — turning the space inside into a quiet little retreat in the middle of it all.

And that’s one of the reasons we love board-and-batten: true privacy. The overlapping pickets help eliminate those gaps you can get as wood naturally expands and contracts with changes in weather.

Beautiful from both sides, built for privacy, and hard to beat in Western Red Cedar.
