We started with dry cracked earth- the kind that mostly invasive weeds like. So we rebuilt it from scratch.

We layered in mushroom compost, moldy hay, chicken poo, and our own homemade compost to give the soil life.

This summer we had an absolutely insane garden. In fact, it’s still producing.

Tomatoes, squash, herbs- exploding without chemicals or constant care.

And the parts were most proud of?
We use NO herbicides, NO pesticides, & no poison on our entire property, period.
Second, the automated watering system that Lee built😍

We work WITH nature. Every other week, we even received 10,000 native fly predators – microscopic good bugs that eat fly larva before they hatch. We get these from

No chemicals, just creating our own thriving ecosystem on our property.

Next: Turning the same soil into our first home made pasture we built.

This beautiful wood decking looks stunning and adds a warm, natural feel to the space. While many homeowners are opting for composite materials like Trex or TimberTech for their durability and low-maintenance benefits, these homeowners decided to embrace the classic appeal of wood. Nature = the Original Designer of Everything
The natural world never goes out of style,or gets boring, and is always present in design, no matter if your intention is “earthy” or not. From conglomerate rocks that inspired terrazzo tile, & seashells inspiring Leonardo da Vinci’s spiral staircase, to natures Fibonacci sequence informing architecture & the lines that reflect millions of years of weather patterns and the movement of minerals over land inspiring striated tile that is just so good on shower walls, art & science go together like biscuits and butter.

BIOMIMICRY is transforming the way we design, innovate & solve problems by emulating natures time tested patterns, strategies & adaptations.

Nature never needed to be trending and that’s one reason we love it- You can’t go wrong drawing inspiration for any thing from our beautiful planet, especially where we are.

At LMS, we design spaces structurally and spatially for function, flow & form. We design them aesthetically for making you feel good in the richness of your life- to turn you on for the life you’re living. Nothing inspires us more than our own ranch-the beauty and bounty of the land, and how it responds when we tend to it, the trees, plants & stones, the beauty of the animals, and the way that nature threads everything we do there. Ideally, we share that same sense of grounded beauty in the spaces we create with others.

Fossils are fascinating so i included master crafters of one of my personal interests in design work - incorporating fossils & stones offers natural art, and fossil fish(pictured).

We recently had a super special visitor, & today is her birthday so we came on to wish a very lovely birthday to this legend, most graceful matriarch, & also LMS bookkeeper, Lees beautiful mother, Darleen!

Happy birthday!!!

We loved being in the garden with you, & can’t say enough thanks for all of your help while you were here. We spent two weeks that started during her visit in a pre evacuation zone for the Lee Fire & went from having no evacuation plan other than really trying hard not to, to having a pretty solid plan to safely evacuate all 41 of us (animals & humans). Couldn’t have gotten it together without your support.

What fun! Come back soon ❤️❤️❤️

The second half of our trip was incredible with one of Lee’s oldest friends, Denise& her fella Kerry. Thank you for having us!

We went to their place in Seattle for a night before taking off the next morning for the Olympic Peninsula where the rainforests leading up to the ocean were epic. We camped in a forrest by the sea, & made it back in time to sit in the club at the Mariners game. We saw burlesque, the market, space needle, & so many fabulous flowers all over Seattle.

We saved one of the best parts for the end as Lee & I love whales & neither of us have ever seen orcas in the wild. Lee’s birthday gift was an adventure to the San Juan Islands via sea plane, and a sweet whale watching tour on a zodiac boat. We were successful & after hauling for over an hour through rough seas, we got to sit in Canadian waters while a pod of ten orcas swam around us. Awesome. Mission accomplished! San Juan Island and Orcas Island were incredible- gorgeous & special & we had so much fun eating, drinking, being merry & exploring both of them!

This was Lee’s trip full of novel experiences for his 50th year!!

When construction is done & moving back in hasn’t started… everything looking awesome! We love the clean lines, mix of neutrals & the tiles fireplace.

We finished this remodel in Vail a couple weeks ago! We posted the bathrooms couple posts back. The continuous design works- it’s seamless and functional.

We came back Saturday from a ten day getaway celebrating Lee’s 50th year on earth! We went on an epic tour of the Pacific Northwest that included a music festival near Bend, OR, some of the dearest friends around (not yet pictured), the Olympic Peninsula, and so much more… which I’ll have to post separately since this carousel is maxed out.

Truth is, there’s never a good time to go away when you are in construction, but the memories we made will@last a lifetime:)

We went to the in Redmond, OR to start. We went to see Sturgill Simpson, Sierra Ferrell, Tyler Childers, Cody Jinks & Ludacris (the most crowded part of the whole country music festival), but we of course ended up hearing new music & new artists & loved every minute.

After that, we booked it up to Washington to stay with some of Lee’s oldest friends, but on the way, we stopped to ride mules near Mount Rainier, which was epic.

I put some of the music we saw into this post and the first pic is of Lee at Burnside skate park in Portland. There’s so much more to it that I’m gonna have to do the rest in another post but of course we came back to a super busy week of remodels & ADU & working it all out!!

Here are a couple of bathrooms we finished recently in a whole home remodel in Vail.

Notice there are 3 different light sources in each bathroom- sconces, under mounted lighting on shelves, & can lights on the ceiling. Lighting is a great way to add interest in any room, & especially in the bathroom, it creates an aesthetically pleasing look that is functional - getting a light that flatters for the bathroom should be a no brainer:)

The placement of lighting needs to be determined pretty early in the project so it’s best to start work with us designing your space before you start!

Also notice the tiles- there are two tiled walls & the randomness of the blue shower subway tile is a cool touch.

Bottom line, you can do whatever you want design & build wise, & it’s nice to throw in some nice lighting, tiled walls, & make it interesting.
