Happy Earth Day! We’re grateful to be surrounded by people who are committed to designing and building in ways that support both people and the planet.

Recently, the Wolfworks team attended NESEA BuildingEnergy Boston Conference, where this year’s theme “Don’t Stop Us Now!” felt exactly right. It was energizing to connect with peers, friends, and new collaborators all working toward reducing our collective impact.

We also spent time in Southern Vermont with our NESEA Bottom Lines peer network group touring thoughtful, high-performance projects and having honest conversations about the business of building better.

Feeling inspired, grounded, and ready to carry that momentum forward through 2026. 🌎

We recently had the opportunity to support a local Environmental Science Magnet School in Hartford on a small but meaningful project.

The Environmental Sciences Magnet School’s Resident Scientist regularly uses the campus greenhouse and community gardens as an outdoor classroom. She was looking for a simple structure to provide shade for students during lessons and we were glad to help.

We are currently constructing a 16' x 20' pavilion for comfort, but also for function. The metal roof will collect rainwater that can be reused to support the gardens, reinforcing the school’s hands-on approach to environmental education.

A special thank you to Chris Tolly Construction for their expertise and help on this!

We had a great time attending the Bloomfield High School Capstone Career Fair this week. It was inspiring to connect with students exploring careers in architecture and construction.

We shared examples of our drawings, gave a quick look into Revit (our modeling and design software), and talked about the wide range of opportunities within the building trades.

What stood out most was the thoughtfulness of the questions and the sustainability and planetary focus the students already have baked into their thinking.

Wrapping up a few cozy reading nooks. These quiet breakaway spaces are perfect for relaxing, soaking in natural light and views, and decompressing for a bit. Performance details like well-insulated, air-sealed walls and triple-glazed casement windows mean no cold spots or drafts....just even temperatures and true barefoot comfort.

We brought the family’s original butcher block into the new kitchen layout of this deep-energy retrofit. Positioned between the range and the sink it stays within easy reach no matter where you’re cooking and framed by a backyard-view window.

We love the character in this 100+ year old Victorian. It’s always a fun and exciting challenge to honor the historic beauty while upgrading performance and energy efficiency. The attic’s “Witch’s Crook” is wicked cool and we can’t wait to highlight details like this as we reimagine the home for its new multi-use future.

On the Boards:
Our prefabricated straw-panel farmhouse is moving through regulatory review in Southbury as we prepare to break ground. The exterior walls of the main home will be built off-site by our friends at .design who insulate the panels using densely packed organic straw sourced from Hadley, MA. This innovative wall system not only stores carbon, creating a positive planetary impact, but also supports our goal of delivering a Zero Energy Ready home.

More updates on this exciting project coming soon!
