“Water saving tip of the day”💦
One of the easiest and most effective ways to conserve water is by identifying and repairing leaks in your irrigation system or garden hoses. Even small leaks can waste hundreds of gallons of water over time. Here’s how to stay on top of it:

1. **Regularly Inspect Irrigation Systems**: Look for wet spots, puddles, or areas of unusually lush grass—these could be signs of leaks in your irrigation system.

2. **Check Connections**: Ensure all hose connections, valves, and sprinkler heads are tight and free from drips. A single dripping faucet can waste gallons of water per day.

3. **Fix Leaks Promptly**: As soon as you spot a leak, repair it right away to prevent water waste and high utility bills.

By addressing leaks quickly, you can significantly reduce water waste and keep your landscape healthy while saving money. 🌿💦

At **Urban Landscape Solutions**, we’re here to help you detect and fix leaks, ensuring a water-efficient landscape. Contact us for a thorough irrigation check-up!

“Water saving tips of the day” Smart Timers

One of the easiest ways to conserve water in your landscape is by installing smart irrigation timers. These devices automatically adjust your watering schedule based on local weather conditions, soil moisture levels, and plant needs, ensuring efficient water use.

**Why Switch to Smart Timers?**
1. **Weather-Based Adjustments**: Smart timers reduce watering on rainy or cooler days and increase it when temperatures rise, preventing water waste.
2. **Customized Schedules**: Tailor your watering times to different zones in your yard, giving each plant the right amount of water.
3. **Remote Control**: Manage your irrigation system from your smartphone or tablet, making it easy to monitor and adjust watering from anywhere.

By using a smart timer, you can save up to 30% more water compared to traditional timers, all while keeping your landscape healthy. 🌱💦

The first step to conserving water in the landscape is proper plant selection and placement. When choosing plants for your landscape choose plants that are desert adapted or native to the area. The less you trim a plant the healthier and stronger it grows. Minimizing the stress of pruning helps the plant retain water. Any cut to a plant is a stressor, it uses energy to try to heal and recover.

This is a very common problem in the valley, a broken poly tube. People always tell me this material is just cheap stuff. So I ask them how often are you running the system. Most common answers, everyday, sometimes 2-3 times a day, for 10 min every time.

Well there’s your problem it’s not the material it’s the overuse of the system. Running the system 2x a day means you run your system 730 times a year. Of course it’s going to have a broken lines, and your still not putting down enough water to promote good, deep, healthy roots.

Drip systems are rated in gallons per hour. Depending on the emitter output and soil percolation, you should at least run your system for an hour. It’s recommended to water your desert adapted shrubs every 7-21 days in the summer.

Do I really need that many valves? Yes. Not all plants need the same amount of water. Here in the desert our landscape consists of many different plants. We have trees, shrubs, cacti/succulents, fruit trees, potted flowers and even lawns.

Each one of these require a different amount of water and watering frequency. Your succulents and cacti will require watering less frequently. Your fruit trees will be watered at a different rate than your desert trees. Pots can only hold so much water.

Each valve is designated to a group of plants with the same watering requirements. This way your not overwatering some plants or underwatering the others.

The most common problem I see is that the whole landscape is on one valve. So because of this people tend to water every day. Bad idea!! Yes your plants stay alive but the overuse of the system and the shallow watering creates very expensive issues.

Best way to to water is making sure your shrubs, trees, and cactia are all on their own valves. You want to water deeply and less frequently. This means that the day you water you might run your valve longer, but your next watering day will be in 14 days for example.
