Irv Gordon, a retired science teacher from New York, made history by driving his 1966 Volvo P1800 over 3.2 million miles—the most miles driven by a single owner in the same car. He drove an average of 100,000 miles a year for decades, touring North America and Europe.

When his Volvo crossed 3 million miles, Irv jokingly offered to sell it back to Volvo for $1 per mile—$3 million. But the automaker respectfully declined, even though they had supported his travels over the years. Irv passed away in 2018, but his legacy lives on.

His car remains a symbol of engineering durability and personal dedication, making it one of the most iconic vehicles in automotive history.
