This morning, Ralph Watson spoke with the junior class at Wheeler High School to discuss future career opportunities with Mattern Construction Inc. During his presentation, he outlined the company’s internship programs, highlighting opportunities available in both field operations and office-based roles. Students gained valuable insight into potential career paths within the construction industry and the skills needed to succeed.

On Friday, Ralph Watson had the opportunity to speak with the Freshman and Sophomore students currently enrolled in the Woodworking 1 course at NFA. During his visit, he shared his knowledge about the many different types of carpenters in the field, explaining the various career paths available, from residential and commercial carpentry to finish work, cabinetry, and specialty trades.

He also discussed the skills, training, and dedication required to succeed in each area, emphasizing the importance of craftsmanship, safety, and continuous learning. Students were engaged throughout the presentation, asking thoughtful questions and gaining valuable insight into how the skills they are developing in class can open doors to future opportunities in the woodworking and construction industries.

Following the Greater Norwich Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting at Hotel Calista, we invited attendees across the street to the Crossings (Old YMCA) for a tour of Mattern’s soon-to-be new headquarters. Guests toured three of the four buildings and saw crews hard at work, with many noting how much progress has been made since last year’s visit.
