The Yurok Tribe is literally replanting the future. After dams came down along a 38-mile stretch of the Klamath River, they hand-sowed 11,500 pounds of native plant seeds between the former Iron Gate Dam and JC Boyle Reservoir. It's a powerful reminder that restoring ecosystems isn't just about removing what's broken—it's about actively choosing to rebuild what belongs there. This is what it looks like when a community takes stewardship seriously.

Our Stillwater Nursery uses carbon (dead wood) in many ways to prepare for installing natives species. This raised log bunker is growing yellow and green zucchini and cantaloupe. The back row is sunflowers. Native flowers are in between anbd we will harvest seed from these. The soil is often 5 degrees warmer than the surrounding ground. Under the soil is decaying branches, leaves and wood chips. Other bunkers are growing native seed species that are hard to find.

Apologies for posting a 2 year old FB notice of a hike at the 100 Acre Wood. It came up on my screen, I thought it was current and shared without checking. My bad.

Stillwater Nursery will continue helping Oregon's south coast people develop pollinator patches, also known as micro-habitats. The habitat you might think is "out there", isn't there anymore. 🐞🐝🐸🐦🦋🪰🐛🦈
