At TR Davis, UV (ultraviolet) disinfection is a go to on most of our surface discharge installations due to its exceptional output of treatment. Seen below are 2 recent projects where UV disinfection was implemented.

Project #1 (Ona, West Virginia) Chlorine Contact Tank Removal, Dual UV installation (Pictures 1-7)

Due to water quality standards not being met by the existing chlorine contact tank, the tank was discontinued, with 2 Illumi- Jet UV Model 952s taking its place, followed by a 500-gallon pump tank to deliver the effluent slightly uphill into the existing D-box. These 2 newly installed UVs will serve a Multiflow model FTB 1.5 (1500GPD) aeration unit.

Project #2 (Proctorville, Ohio) UV/Pump Tank Installation (Pictures 8-15)

Due to a drainfield failure, a single illumi- Jet UV was installed, along with a new 500-gallon pump tank using an infiltrator IM540 to carry effluent out and around the customers home to the final discharge point. The Zoeller effluent pump, high water alarm, UV unit, and existing Jet aerator all being powered by this single Jet Model 197 Hybrid control panel.

Glenbrier Apartments Treatment Plant Discontinuation/Sanitary Sewer Connection

Huntington, West Virginia

- Disconnection of original sewer line running from apartments to treatment plant and rerouting to a newly installed manhole with 30' of 8" sanitary sewer.

- Pumping/removal of approximately 55,000 gallons of wastewater from existing plant.

- Around 500 tons of fill used to bury empty tank upon sludge removal.

- Removal of fencing, blower motors, and all onsite electrical components used to power the treatment plant.

- Final dress/reclaim to restore site back to original condition.

Seen here is a before and after of a filter or "sock" change on this Multiflow model FTB 1.5 aerobic system. This unit is capable of treating 1500 gallons of effluent per day. These filters play an important role in sustaining proper operation of the system on a day-to-day basis. These filters or "socks" trap and hold solids, preventing them from flowing out of the tank into the drainfield, affecting its absorption life.

In this scenario, tertiary treatment (sand filters) is used for the effluent discharging from the tank. Solids built up on socks, uneven use of sand filters, and limited to no maintenance can cause buildup and the need for excessive cleaning to be done on the sand filter or filters (as seen below) or at worst, complete failure. Whether you're a business, homeowner, or septic provider, knowing the steps in proper and routine maintenance to your septic system is key to achieving longevity and A+ operation for years to come.

For nearly 2 years, TR Davis has monitored/serviced the system seen here at the Dollar General-Smithville, West Virginia location making small repairs upon return until a bigger upgrade was necessary. Seen below is the upgrade in which took place.

We added a new 1500-gallon pump tank allowing for around 1200 gallons of storage before being pressure discharged to the absorption field by a 98 Auto Zoeller effluent pump, compared to around 20 gallons of storage seen in the first image. A scenario eliminating the substantial amount of pump run time. A new high-water alarm was also added.

Upon state request, the existing pre-treatment tank before the Absorption field was pumped, collapsed, and filled, with a 7-hole D-box taking its place. We really appreciate those who have taken the time to read this and learn more about what we do as a company.
