Project spotlight: Old Town Parking Lot Rain Garden in Bloomingdale, IL. PSLA worked with the Village of Bloomingdale to design the rain garden planting as part of the renovation of the Old Town municipal parking lot. The lot showcases on-site stormwater solutions such as permeable pavers and an underground storm trap. The central bioswale receives runoff and features a mix of native, nativars, and adaptive plants meant to withstand a variety of conditions. In addition to parking, the lot is the setting for the weekly Bloomingdale Maker's Market.

On a snowy Halloween, PSLA joined the Peirce School of International Studies community, Alderwoman Manaa-Hoppenworth, and former Alderman Osterman to dedicate the new play and gathering space at the school's playlot. The project area was formerly underutilized and prone to standing water and mud. PSLA worked with the school and CPS to create play opportunities particularly for older students and gathering spaces for all, while retaining the existing mature trees and solving drainage issues.

From rendering to reality! Earlier this week, PSLA, along with with Chicago Public Schools, Space To Grow, MWRD, Chicago Department of Water Mangement, Healthy Schools Campaign, and Openlands joined the Piccolo School of Excellence community for a ribbon cutting at their new schoolyard. Working with the community partners, PSLA and EVA Design & Engineering led the design of the revamped space, which includes a new playground, nature play space, raingardens, track, and artificial turf field capable of storing more than 150,000 gallons of stormwater below.

We realize we haven't posted in a while, but we've been BUSY! Planning, designing, drawing, rendering, creating, visiting, observing are among the many things we've accomplished this year for schools, parks, streetscapes, corporate campuses, residences, and more. We wish all of our friends and partners Happy Holidays and continued success for the New Year!

A group called Friends of the Ela Peace Project is fundraising for a 20-foot stainless steel 'peace pole' with laser cut messaging, said to be the first of its kind in Lake County.

Work and school settings were certainly a bit different this year, but despite the challenges, PSLA designed and saw completion of two corporate campus projects and a playground/ballfield project with Chicago Public Schools. We have similar projects already in the works for 2021, and hopefully these sites can be fully enjoyed in person soon!
