One last look at summer before the leaves really start to fall 🍁🍂🍁

This backyard is all about the trees that were already here. 🌳With respect, we knew we had to work with this existing environment. (We love a mature shade tree).

The goal was a backyard oasis that felt like it had always belonged under this canopy. A clean-lined rectangle with an integrated spa sits inside a soft, curving border of natural limestone walls, so the geometry of the water plays against the organic shape of the land.

From the deck, a flagstone landing steps down into the space and leads to the pavilion, a shaded spot for long afternoons. Along the far edge, a row of red Adirondacks brings a pop of color against all that green.

Swipe to see how it all comes together from above. ➡️

Planning next summer’s backyard? Fall is the time to start designing. Link in bio.

Deep in the rolling hills of Barrington Hills, this lakeside property was designed to make the most of its incredible setting.

An infinity-edge pool that seems to disappear into the lake. Expansive stone patios. Layers of landscape that connect the home, pool and shoreline.

Every element was designed to feel like it belongs here, creating a backyard that’s as much about the view as it is the functionality of the elements.

If an outdoor room is on your someday list, save this one.

Destiny, lead landscape architect, takes us through a backyard that is a blueprint for outdoor living done right: a fully equipped kitchen, covered dining and lounge spaces, fireplace and TV, custom fire feature, integrated lighting, and thoughtful details everywhere you look.

It has all the bells and whistles, but what really makes it exceptional is how seamlessly everything works together.

Watch the full tour, save your favorite ideas, and tell us: which feature would be non-negotiable in your backyard?

Rain or shine, The Barn team shows up!

2026 marks 30th Annual Native Plant, Tree, and Shrub Sale. It has become one of the largest sales in the region, featuring more than 200 species of native forbs, grasses, trees, and shrubs. All plants are acquired from high-quality local nurseries and are grown without the use of neonicotinoid pesticides, which are toxic to pollinators.

We were happy to show up and help Citizens for Conservation with set up for this upcoming event! Visit their social media or website for more details@on the plant sale.
