Bubbling Boulder Cairn!

This was one of the first Pondless Fountains my hubby ( .ra.el.el.ell ) has made for me.

So many birds, bugs and animals have relied on it during the hot, dry months.

These are safe for all wildlife (pets & children included) due to the fact there is no open water to drown in.

There is also no stagnant water for those skeeters to breed in!

He has made many Pondless Fountains for my clients.

Contact me if you'd like to discuss getting your own, custom made fountain!

Stay tuned, more fountain posts on the way!

Halt β›” Who goes there? πŸ˜€

This gated entrance is adorned with two flower bowl sentries.

They colorfully welcome home the occupants and visitors who stop by.

Although they wave hello with lovely colors, they also stand their ground atop four foot piers.

The carpet should always match the drapes πŸ˜‰

Repeating flowers from the ground beds in the elevated pots brings height to the display.

This mostly shady entrance, created with Outcrop Stone treads and Brussels Block, plays well with the colorful impatients.

Summer containers are here!

Although it has been a weird year so far and in so many ways... Gaia still tilted her 23° and gave us summer 😍😊

Since it has been cooler here, many of my clients put off their summer container installs to fully enjoy their spring ones.

I also have the clients who didn't get spring pots and are excited to get their summer ones, so I've been installing those.

It's still not too late to order!

There is superstitions!

It’s not all doom and gloom though where the poor daffodil is concerned.

It also has many beneficial uses and was used in the olden days to relieve whooping cough and bronchitis, and as a poultice to heal burns and wounds.

Wealthy women used the yellow flower dye to tint their hair and eyebrows.

Nowadays, it’s grown commercially in Powys, Wales for the production of Galanthamine, an alkaloid (also found in snowdrops) used in Alzheimer’s drugs.

Daffodil compounds are also being researched as a treatment for depression at the University of Copenhagen.

It’s even used as payment on the Isles of Scilly, as annually one daffodil is given to the Prince of Wales as rent for any unattended land.

Now, for anyone living on the Isle of Man, there’s a superstition that it’s bad luck to bring daffodils (goose herb) into the home, before the goslings have hatched.

In complete contrast to this, in Devon it’s believed the number of goslings that survive is decided by how many wild daffodils are in the first bunch of the season brought into the home.

Do you say CLEM-a-tis or CLE-matis? πŸ€”

This is Nelly Moser. Isn't she a stunner?

She gets about 6 feet tall and about 3 feet wide.

Clematis like their heads in the sun and their feet in the shade, which makes them perfect for little nooks.

Larger patches of the same color can help with lower vision.

It can be confusing to be bombarded by a mix of many colors, especially if challenged, visually.

Planting larger groups of the same plant can offer some comfort via balanced colors.

Using a plant that has dimension and has a pleasant smell or feel to it can truly add to the experience.

Planting colors on opposite sides of the color wheel offers vivid color ranges. πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆπŸŽ¨ Even to folks with no color vision. .

Go with the flow!

Have you ever followed a winding path out of sheer curiosity of what you'll find at the end?

Landscape designers know this little trick and good ones will use this human curiosity to their advantage.

Sometimes small areas are not large enough to create long, hidden paths. Or possibly the clientele may not be mobile.

However, designing long paths of flowers can create the same curiosity.

The eye will be drawn to follow the line of flowers, in lieu of just staring at a clump.

πŸ’šπŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ’žπŸ’šπŸ’›πŸ’š Color POP!

Spring ephemerals pop-up while the leaves on the trees are still budding out.

They push out of the ground so quickly, you must check on them daily or you'll miss 'em!

After blooming, the garden goes to all green. However, it does have many shades and textures.

Can you spy with your little eye?

I love to hide little, odd things in my designs.

99% of the time, no one notices. Even when I put my finger right on it to talk about the area of the plan.

I think it goes unnoticed, due to folks not expecting it to be there, thus the brain just excuses it.

I have to wonder who has the sense of humor?
