First round of Ghost and Armageddon peppers are in the dehydrator. I definitely didn’t chop them small enough but will for the next round. Not gonna lie, the “pure capsaicin and high-heat volatile compounds” definitely made my eyes and nose tingle. The oils from these peppers were drippy. Double gloves (and will mask next time) with immediate clean up of the tools and cutting boards and all around the cutting area. Now they sit in the dehydrator. Outside. I am hoping they get done in 12 hours but I have conflicting instructions so it might be closer to 24 hours.

🌶️ This is the fun of gardening and producing! Can’t wait to use this new tool for other homemade things! You have control when you grow your own.

Picked a few other things in the garden today. The Fall Gold Raspberries are starting to produce! Fall Gold are a sweet, yellow-gold, heavy-producing variety.

The carrots came out nice and sweet this year. We thinned most of the patch so the majority were nice and straight, but a few still bunched together and grew funny. Looks like this one all came from the same seed. Not sure if that is possible. But it reminds me of a praying mantis!

About 1/4 of the last batch of radishes were ready to be picked. They are beautiful! We dropped this box off at the food pantry today. The next time we pick, we might try a new recipe: roasted radishes! Someone said they were good roasted so we’ll give it a go!

Caught this beautiful monarch enjoying the tall zinnias. These zinnias were the broken and discarded plants we decided to plant in the garden in mid-June. We didn’t do anything special. Just gave them a good home with the same garden mix we use in our vegetable garden. Watered and wow did they turn out amazing. We’ve been cutting long stemmed flowers all season and they never stopped blooming.

The monarchs are a work of art. We’ve seen an abundance of butterflies this year. It seems the campaign to plant pollinators is working! At least locally. Thank you for doing your part! Keep up the good work! 🦋❤️🦋

Picking Armageddon and Ghost Peppers! Ghost Peppers have a Scoville rating between 855,000 and 1,041,427 Scoville Heat Units (SHU). But Armageddon is up to 1.3 million SHU! 🔥🧯

We will dehydrate these and make a spicy powder good for anything spicy like chili and sauce.

It’s game day! 🏈 🧡💙💛🖤. Illinois and Purdue have a rival match. We have awesome nephews at Purdue and one of our kids at Illinois. Not to mention Illinois has one of the greatest Extension services around. The research they do and knowledge they have in the gardening and landscaping fields alone is immense.
