Not every part of a bridge project makes the headlines - but every detail matters.

Recently, on the Ashland, NH bridge project, Ralph Darrah was on site welding the east joint and completing the east-side overhang brackets. Precision work like this helps ensure the bridge is built to last, one connection at a time.

It's all coming together In Barre.

Now crews focus on the final details that will ensure a smooth, long-lasting crossing for everyone who travels through the area.

From grading and alignment to the finishing touches that often go unnoticed, it's this careful attention to detail that makes the difference. Our team is proud to be part of a project that will serve the community for years to come.

Another major milestone is complete on the Barre Rail Crossing Project.

Beginning July 31, both the railroad and Hill Street were closed for another intensive construction weekend. During the closure, crews removed the existing crossing and approach track, excavated the old subbase, rebuilt the foundation with new pavement underlayment beneath the ballast, and installed new track through the crossing.

With the track work at Hill Street now complete, the remaining work includes the drainage tie-in, installation of railroad signal equipment, roadway subbase, precast concrete crossing panels, new pavement, and the final curb and sidewalk.

Our attention now shifts to the South Main Street crossing as we prepare for the next series of rail outages and crossing reconstruction.

This work would not have been possible without the outstanding teamwork of our partners. A special thank you to RA Filskov & Sons, whose crews worked alongside the J.P. Sicard team throughout these weekend rail outages and played a key role in the success of this phase of the project.

We'd also like to recognize Stone Trucking and Galfetti Grading for their support throughout the weekend. Both companies provided dump trucks and drivers that helped keep materials moving and the project on schedule.

Thank you to everyone involved for another safe and successful weekend of progress. We're one step closer to delivering a safer, smoother rail crossing for the Barre community.

Happy (Belated) National Intern Day! July 30th!

A day late, but the appreciation is right on time.

Every summer, we're fortunate to have interns join the J.P. Sicard team. They don't spend the summer watching from the sidelines -they're out in the field, learning alongside experienced crews, asking questions, solving problems, and getting a firsthand look at what it takes to build roads, bridges, rail crossings, and infrastructure across Vermont and New Hampshire.

In about a month, they'll be heading back to school, taking with them experience you simply can't get in a classroom.

To our interns: Thank you for your hard work, positive attitude, and willingness to jump in wherever needed. We hope this summer has helped shape your future, and we look forward to seeing where your careers take you.

Who knows... maybe we'll see you back on a J.P. Sicard job site after graduation.

Rail crossing replacements don't happen during the middle of the day. They require careful planning, close coordination, and long nights to keep projects moving while minimizing disruptions.

Our team recently spent the night(s) on the Barre Rail Crossing Project, working alongside heavy equipment, bright lights, and dedicated partners to safely complete another critical phase of the job.

One project. Two bridges. One community moving forward.

The new Sass Avenue Bridge is taking shape as part of the same contract as our Onion River Bridge project in Marshfield, Vermont.

After the devastating July 2023 floods washed away the original bridge serving a home off Route 2, a temporary crossing restored access. Now, we're building the permanent replacement - a new single-lane bridge with reinforced concrete abutments, improved roadway approaches, and a precast bridge deck.

These photos highlight some of the biggest milestones so far:
- Building the concrete abutments
- Installing riprap and roadway embankments
- Setting the precast bridge deck, manufactured by JP Carrara and lifted into place by CCS Crane Service

Next up: guardrails, paving the approaches, removing the temporary bridge, and opening the new crossing.

We're proud to help rebuild stronger infrastructure for Vermont communities.

Around the Clock in Barre

When a project keeps a community moving, the work doesn't stop when the sun goes down.

The J.P. Sicard crew is working day and night shifts to reconstruct the railroad crossings at Hill Street and South Main Street in Barre City. The project includes new railroad track, upgraded crossing surfaces, drainage improvements, utility upgrades, and modern railroad signal systems.

These improvements will make the crossings safer, more reliable, and built to serve Barre for years to come.
