Recent Project Highlight 🚧

📍 Smithville Road Bridge Rehab | Smithfield Rd. | Peoria, IL 61607

Bridges get used all the time — but have you ever wondered what it takes to maintain them and keep them safe for years to come? Our crew was recently jacking up bridge beams to swap out aging bearing plates and installing new rebar throughout the parapet walls, sleeper slab and approach slab. It's the kind of behind-the-scenes work most drivers never see, but everyone benefits from!

What started with her dad and brother (Bob and Bobby Cassidy), knowing only that “pipefitters wear denim bibs” has turned into a decade of growth, leadership and dedication at H&S Industries.

Ten years ago, Erica was a stay-at-home mom when Tara reached out for help with payroll as the company was growing quickly. Since then, she has grown alongside H&S Industries into her role as Project Administrator, becoming a true pillar of our team.

She’s witnessed the evolution of the company firsthand — from Shaun hauling in binders to keep track of projects to the streamlined digital systems we use today thanks to Tara’s vision and innovation. Watching the teamwork, growth and vision of H&S Industries come to life has been one of the most rewarding parts of her journey.

Throughout the years, Erica says H&S Industries has taught her to stay open-minded, embrace new ideas, step outside of her comfort zone and never stop learning. What has kept her here the most is the family-first culture Shaun built from the very beginning: taking care of employees and creating an environment where people genuinely enjoy working together.

One of Erica’s favorite reminders:
“You know, what’s the point if you can’t laugh?”

Her advice to anyone considering a career in the trades:
“Be willing to adapt, keep learning new things and don’t be afraid to make yourself uncomfortable.”

Scaffolding is a critical tool — but only when it’s used correctly. Remember these key scaffolding safety practices:
- Ensure scaffolding has been inspected by a competent person daily before use
- Never exceed load limits
- Ensure proper guardrails and that scaffold is fully planked
- Use safe access points—no climbing frames or braces
- Read inspection tags for any necessary additional PPE

Falls remain one of the leading causes injuries and death in construction. Taking a few extra minutes to do it right can prevent serious accidents. Build safe. Work smart. Go home safe.

As temperatures rise, so does the risk of heat-related illnesses on the jobsite. Know the warning signs:
🌡️ Headache or dizziness
💦 Heavy sweating or no sweating
🤕 Nausea, cramps or confusion

Protect yourself and your crew:
- Drink water often — even if you’re not thirsty
- Replace electrolytes
- Take breaks in shaded or cool areas
- Wear lightweight, breathable clothing
- Call for help (911, plant rescue team, etc.) if you notice someone suffering from symptoms

Stopping heat illness starts with awareness. If you see symptoms in yourself or a coworker, act immediately. Stay cool. Stay hydrated. Stay safe.
