⛳️ A great day on the green for a great cause!

TCS Mechanical was proud to sponsor and participate in the Greater Austin Asian Chamber of Commerce (GAACC) Fall Classic Golf Tournament! 🏌️‍♂️

From friendly competition on the course to connecting with fellow business and community leaders, it was a fantastic opportunity to strengthen relationships, have a little fun, and support an organization making a difference in the Greater Austin business community.

At TCS, we believe in the importance of showing up, building meaningful partnerships, and supporting the communities we live and work in.

🔩 WHAT APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM DID YOU ATTEND?

“Utah Pipe Trades represented by UA Local 140 in pursuit of a plumbing license.”

🔩 WHAT DO YOU REMEMBER MOST ABOUT YOUR FIRST DAY ON THE JOB?

“My first dispatch was to meet at a park-and-ride, where three other first-year apprentices and I waited for someone to pick us up. Eventually, a white passenger van full of plumbers pulled up, told us to hop in, and drove us to the jobsite. I remember thinking to myself, ‘What have I gotten myself into?’”

🔩 WHAT DOES YOUR CURRENT ROLE INVOLVE, AND HOW IS IT DIFFERENT FROM WHERE YOU STARTED?

“I’m currently a Project Manager responsible for overseeing operations on projects valued at $10 million at a semiconductor plant in New Mexico. When I first started, I knew very little about construction, so I made it a priority to learn as much as possible and continually develop my skills. I showed up every day with determination, took pride in my work, and applied what I learned through the pipe trades courses to real-world situations. Over time, that commitment to learning and hard work helped me grow from someone just starting in the trade to managing complex projects and leading teams.”

🔩 WHAT SKILLS HAVE BEEN THE MOST IMPORTANT IN HELPING YOU ADVANCE?

“Trade-related mathematics and orbital welding have been two of the most important skills in advancing my career. Having a strong understanding of the math behind the trade makes problem-solving easier and helps you work more efficiently. Learning orbital welding opened the door to opportunities in the semiconductor industry, where I’ve spent most of my career.”

🔩 WHAT QUALITIES SEPARATE A GOOD TRADESPERSON FROM A GREAT ONE?

“To me, a good tradesperson understands their job and consistently meets expectations. A great tradesperson goes a step further by continuing to learn, accepting constructive criticism, and sharing their knowledge and experience with their union brothers and sisters. They understand that there is always room to grow and that helping others succeed makes the entire team stronger.”

🔩 IS THERE A PARTICULAR TCS ACCOMPLISHMENT OR PROJECT YOU ARE ESPECIALLY PROUD TO HAVE BEEN PART OF?

“I’m especially proud of the team we’ve built at TCS Mechanical in New Mexico. The TCS executive team took a chance on me and our team by investing in the New Mexico market without any guaranteed work. We got to work bidding projects and ultimately secured approximately $10 million in work. Since then, we’ve built an outstanding team and established ourselves as a preferred contractor on site. Seeing that growth and knowing I’ve played a part in building the operation from the ground up is something I take great pride in.”

🔩 WHAT TYPE OF PERSON TENDS TO THRIVE IN THE MECHANICAL TRADES?

“A problem solver. The mechanical trades present new challenges every day, and those who thrive are the ones who can think critically, adapt, and find solutions. People who focus on solving problems rather than simply pointing them out help keep projects moving forward and become valuable assets to any team.”

🔩 WHAT IS THE BEST ADVICE YOU HAVE EVER RECEIVED?

“Take time to learn how to perform a task correctly and the speed will come”

From starting as a first-year plumbing apprentice with little construction experience to becoming a Project Manager overseeing multimillion-dollar projects, Jacob’s journey reflects the value of hard work, determination, and a commitment to continuous learning.

His story is a reminder that success in the mechanical trades comes from more than technical skills. It takes problem-solving, adaptability, and a willingness to learn from others along the way. By embracing those qualities, Jacob has helped build a strong team and grow TCS Mechanical’s presence in New Mexico.

We had a great time welcoming Rosanky Christian Academy to TCS Mechanical for a morning of learning and exploring! 🦺🔧

The morning kicked off with donuts and an icebreaker team-building activity for the RCA students, giving them a chance to connect, work together, and have some fun. 🍩

Afterwards, we gave the students a behind-the-scenes tour of our TCS Mechanical facility, where they got an inside look at what we do and the work that goes into the mechanical industry.

Thank you, RCA, for spending the morning with us! We enjoyed having y’all and sharing a little bit of what we do here at TCS Mechanical! 🤝🏼

🏗️ WHAT DO YOU REMEMBER MOST ABOUT YOUR FIRST DAY ON THE JOB?

“What I remember most about my first day on the job was walking into the AMD cleanroom facility and seeing all the specialized tools, equipment, and robots. I was amazed by how advanced the facility was and that working in an environment like that was part of the construction trade. It really opened my eyes to how much technology and precision goes into the work we do.”

🏗️ WHO WAS ONE OF YOUR FIRST MENTORS, AND WHAT DID THEY TEACH YOU?

“Russell Moore was one of my first mentors when I was getting started in the trade. As a foreman, he took the time to teach me how to weld PVDF and polypropylene piping. His guidance gave me a strong foundation in the trade and helped me develop skills that I continue to use today.”

🏗️ WHAT DOES YOUR CURRENT ROLE INVOLVE, AND HOW IS IT DIFFERENT FROM WHERE YOU STARTED?

“My current role as Superintendent involves putting my TCS employees first and making sure they have the support, direction, and resources they need to be successful. This role is different from where I started because I have grown from focusing primarily on my own work to leading, teaching, and developing my crews. I’m able to share the knowledge and experience I’ve gained while continuing to learn and grow alongside my team.”

🏗️ WHAT PART OF YOUR WORK GIVES YOU THE GREATEST SENSE OF PRIDE?

“Being able to look back on a completed project and know that my team worked together to deliver a high-quality result gives me the greatest sense of pride. I take pride in seeing our hard work come together and knowing that we successfully completed the project to a high standard.”

🏗️ WHAT HAVE YOU ENJOYED MOST ABOUT WORKING AT TCS?

“What I have enjoyed most about working at TCS is the many doors and opportunities the company has opened for me, both personally and professionally. TCS has given me the opportunity to grow as a leader, learn new skills, and take on new challenges. I also really value the care and support TCS shows its employees and the way the company invests in its people.”

🏗️ WHO AT TCS HAS INFLUENCED OR SUPPORTED YOUR PROFESSIONAL GROWTH?

“Tim Kimbro, Stuart Cooper, and David Mahoney have had a significant impact on my professional growth. They have trusted me with the responsibility of leading multimillion-dollar projects and have provided me with the resources, guidance, and support needed to make those projects successful. Their confidence in me has pushed me to grow as a leader and take on greater responsibilities.”

🏗️ WHAT WOULD YOU TELL SOMEONE WHO BELIEVES COLLEGE IS THE ONLY PATH TO A SUCCESSFUL CAREER?

“While I believe college can be a great path to a successful career, it is not the only path. The skilled trades offer tremendous opportunities to build a rewarding career, develop valuable skills, and grow into leadership positions. It takes people in construction and trades to turn ideas and designs into reality and make everything work.”

🏗️ WHAT IS ONE THING YOU WISH SCHOOLS TAUGHT STUDENTS ABOUT CAREERS IN THE TRADES?

“I wish schools did more to teach students about the opportunities available in the skilled trades. Trades are what keep the world moving. Skilled tradespeople are the ones who build, install, maintain, and develop the infrastructure and systems that people rely on every day. There are so many rewarding career opportunities in the trades, and I think students should understand that a successful career doesn’t have to follow a traditional college path.”

🏗️ WHAT IS THE BEST ADVICE YOU HAVE EVER RECEIVED?

“I’ve found that honesty builds trust and helps create stronger relationships, both personally and professionally.”

🏗️ ONE WORD TO DESCRIBE TCS?

“Family.”

Greg’s journey is a great example of how a career in the trades can grow from learning the technical side of the work to becoming a leader who helps others succeed.

On Wednesday, members of the TCS Mechanical team had the opportunity to attend the 10th Annual Apprenticeship Texas Conference, hosted by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).

Representing TCS Mechanical and our industry partners were:

The Apprenticeship Texas Conference brought together employers, workforce leaders, educators, and industry professionals from across Texas to share proven strategies, discuss workforce development, explore funding opportunities, and learn more about apprenticeship models.

As our industry continues to grow and evolve, conferences like this provide valuable opportunities to learn, connect, and strengthen the future of the skilled trades. We are proud to have members of our team actively involved in developing the next generation of skilled professionals. 🔧👷‍♂️

🪏ONE WORD TO DESCRIBE TCS?

“Family.”

🪏WHAT WAS THE FIRST TOOL OR SKILL YOU HAD TO LEARN HOW TO USE?

“The first skill I had to learn how to use was detailing at Samsung Parmer as an unindentured apprentice. I knew I liked to draw and knew how to read a tape measure, so my dad was my foreman at that time and pretty much threw me to the wolves, and I figured it out pretty quick.”

🪏WHEN DID YOU JOIN TCS MECHANICAL, AND WHAT ORIGINALLY ATTRACTED YOU TO THE COMPANY?

“I started with TCS Mechanical in July of 2018. I tried to get on earlier, but Tim was not ready at that time for hand welders. Tim is the one that attracted me to TCS because I had worked around him before on different jobs over many years in the trade.”

🪏WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST ROLE WITH TCS?

“My first role with TCS was welding in the first shop we had down the road from the new shop. I was welding carbon steel, stainless steel foreline for Samsung, getting passed around from job site to job site welding. Welding is a passion for me, and I take great pride in every weld I have ever made.”

🪏HOW HAS YOUR ROLE AT TCS GROWN OR CHANGED SINCE YOU STARTED?

“My role at TCS has changed quite a bit from when I started 8 years ago. I went from welding in ditches, welding at Samsung, welding foreline for Samsung, and in the shop, until one day I was welding in the shop and Tommy Whited came up to me while I was in the middle of a weld at the shop and asked, ‘Hey, do you want to go to Sherman with me?’

I asked, ‘To do what?’

He said, ‘To be my GF.’

I said, ‘Well I guess, but I haven’t ever been in that position, but screw it, let’s try it out!’

From then on, he has taught me a lot and now I am a Superintendent with 2 jobs completed and currently working on my 3rd.”

From starting out as an unindentured apprentice learning detailing to becoming a Superintendent, Dustin’s journey at TCS Mechanical shows how taking on new challenges and learning from those around you can open the door to new opportunities.

His story also highlights the importance of being willing to step outside of your comfort zone. What started with welding in the shop and on job sites eventually led Dustin into a leadership role, where he continues to build on the skills and experience he gained throughout his career.

Today, Dustin is a Superintendent, with two completed jobs under his belt and currently working on his third. His journey is a great example of how growth can come from simply being willing to take on the next challenge.

We’re proud to have Dustin as part of the TCS Mechanical team and appreciate the experience, craftsmanship, and leadership he brings to every project.

At TCS Mechanical, investing in our people means investing in the future of our company and our industry.

This week, we sent six members of our field leadership team to the MCAA Field Leaders Conference in Portland, Oregon. The conference is designed to elevate mechanical contracting professionals by strengthening the leadership, communication, and strategic skills essential to jobsite and business success.

We are proud to provide our team with opportunities to grow, sharpen their skills, and become even stronger leaders in the field.

Representing TCS Mechanical were Christopher Goetz, David Dipietro, Greg Dailey, Carlos Salinas, Dustin Janner, and Chris Wyly.

Thank you to instructors Kevin Dougherty, leading industry consultant; Mark Rogers of West Chester Mechanical; and Greg Fuller of North Mechanical for sharing their experience and investing in the next generation of field leadership.

🔧WHAT DID YOU ORIGINALLY WANT TO DO AS A CAREER?

“My original goal was to follow in my father’s footsteps and become a pilot.”

🔧WHO FIRST INTRODUCED YOU TO THE TRADES?

“Mr. Earley Bogan introduced me to the trade when I was 20 years old. He has long since passed away, but he was one of the best steamfitters I have ever known. He was a very strong mentor in my early years.”

🔧WHO ELSE HAD A BIG IMPACT ON YOUR CAREER?

“Retired Army Colonel Steven Strass, incredible man with vast knowledge of the construction industry. He took me under his wing and began teaching me. He would even make me come to his house on Saturdays—and don’t be late—to show me things that would have taken me years to learn.

The biggest thing he ever said to me was, ‘Jimmy, when you tell someone you are going to do something, YOU DO IT.’ He taught me that one the hard way, and I never forgot it. That’s a story for another time.”

🔧HOW HAS YOUR VIEW OF SUCCESS CHANGED THROUGHOUT YOUR CAREER?

“I used to think that success was measured by how high you ranked, how many subordinates worked under you, or how much money you made.

That’s not true for me. Over the years, I learned that success is being happy, doing what you love, being patient, humble, respectful, and surrounding yourself with people you care about.

I know it sounds a little mushy, but I can promise if you have peace when you close your eyes, success will come.”

🔧WHAT WOULD YOU TELL SOMEONE CONSIDERING A CAREER IN THE MECHANICAL TRADES?

“Now is an excellent time to enter the mechanical trade. The pay is good, benefits are good, and the work opportunities are unbelievable.

When I joined this trade, it was unthinkable to imagine what this industry would become.”

Jimmy’s story is a reminder that a career isn’t built alone. The mentors who take the time to teach us, the lessons we carry with us, and the people we surround ourselves with can all shape the path we take.

From being introduced to the trade at 20 years old to becoming a Superintendent/Labor Manager, Jimmy’s journey reflects the value of learning from others, keeping your word, staying humble, and finding success in doing what you love.

Today, on the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, TCS Mechanical joins our nation in remembering the lives lost and honoring the courage of those who responded.

We remember the first responders who ran toward danger, the rescue and recovery teams who worked tirelessly, and the countless individuals whose strength, courage, and selflessness helped carry our nation through an unimaginable day.

25 years later, their bravery and sacrifice remain a part of our history and a reminder of the strength and unity that followed.

We remember. We honor. We stand united. We will never forget. 🇺🇸
