The Hayes Block is an iconic historic building in the heart of downtown Albion, Michigan. The building is a tax credit and MEDC CRP project. All windows were replaced as part of this project. The interior of the building is completely renovated with a modern design and historic trims. The exterior street front facade was restored to it’s historic days with a new elevator shaft and stairwell addition on the rear.

The Valentine Center project renovates an existing 5,503 SF educational facility into a modern daycare environment supporting infants through preschool-aged children. The design prioritizes safety, flexibility, and ease of supervision while creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere for children, staff, and families.

Interior spaces feature light-filled classrooms, soft seating, and adaptable areas that support both structured learning and play. Dedicated zones for infants and toddlers provide a calm, nurturing setting, while older children benefit from flexible, activity-based spaces.

At Driven Design, we believe internships should provide meaningful, hands-on experience that helps emerging professionals grow with confidence.

As Alaina’s internship comes to a close, we had the opportunity to reflect with her on the experience — from collaborating with the team to developing new skills in a professional design environment.

We’re proud to create opportunities where young designers can learn, contribute, and gain exposure to the day-to-day realities of the industry.

A big thank you to Alaina for all of her hard work, creativity, and dedication throughout the internship. We’re excited to see what’s ahead in her design career.

Concept 3: The Woodland Nature Loop
These woods were Cody’s childhood escape - a place of endless adventures with friends and a constant worry that one day it might all be replaced by another big development project. Choosing this site means those worries can finally rest. Instead of developing the site and relocating the wildlife, the woods get to stay just as they were loved-only now reimagined as a nature preserve where people can wander, relax, play and gather for events in a tucked-away, peaceful setting.
A preserved trail network designed to connect neighborhoods, promote wellness, and protect natural landscapes.
Elevated boardwalks.
Native plantings.
Quiet spaces for reflection.
Sometimes the best design is preserving what already exists.

Concept 2: The Battle Creek Botanical Conservatory

Located near the entrance of downtown Battle Creek, this conservatory offers a myriad of opportunities for botany enthusiasts of any age. During summer enjoy strolling the grounds and admiring flowering plants, statue gardens, reflection pools, or just ambling the walkways. The interior is open year round and boasts both high quality and quantity vegetation of diverse habitats. Countless opportunities for education, and dedicated children’s areas make this a perfect place for the whole family. There are two dedicated venue locations inside the Botanical Conservatory, which are catered towards weddings, but can be rearranged for any event you want to be memorable.
Planned in conjunction with the river naturalization project, it offers an excellent place to launch, portage, or end your watery excursions.
