Today we were out performing indoor air quality testing for a client here at Demoldify.

Air testing can be a valuable tool when there are concerns about possible hidden mold, musty odors, unexplained allergy-like symptoms, or when a home simply “doesn’t smell right” despite no visible mold being found. These samples help provide a snapshot of what’s circulating through the indoor air compared to normal outdoor conditions.

That said, air testing is only one part of the process. A proper inspection, moisture investigation, thermal imaging, and understanding how the home is handling heat and humidity are all equally important. Elevated spore counts may indicate an issue, but identifying and correcting the underlying moisture source is what truly matters long term.

Every building behaves differently, and our goal is always to help clients better understand what’s happening inside their home and why.

Most mold doesn’t announce itself… it hides.

This video shows how something that looks completely normal can reveal a much bigger issue just by changing the angle of a light. Cabinets, walls, corners — these are all places mold can sit quietly until someone knows what to look for.

That’s the difference.

It’s not always about what’s obvious — it’s about knowing how to find what isn’t.

What are all these?

These are bio-tape lifts, air-o-cell cassettes, and swabs—tools we use when deeper mold evaluation is needed.

• Tape lifts help us look at what’s growing on surfaces
• Air samples show what’s floating in the air you breathe
• Swabs allow for targeted sampling in specific areas

Testing isn’t always necessary—but when we do it, it helps remove the guesswork and gives us a clearer picture of what’s really going on inside the home.

Heavy attic mold growth like this doesn’t happen overnight.

We often see mold develop on roof decking and rafters when moisture becomes trapped in the attic space. Because warm air naturally rises through a home, attics can collect humidity from everyday activities like cooking, showering, and breathing.

Common causes include:
• Bathroom or kitchen fans venting into the attic
• Air leaks around lights, wiring, and attic hatches
• Poor attic ventilation
• Lack of insulation allowing warm air to reach the roof decking
• Roof leaks introducing moisture into the structure

When warm, humid air meets the colder roof decking, condensation can form. Over time, that repeated moisture exposure can lead to significant mold growth.

The key to solving attic mold is addressing the moisture and airflow issues first, then properly treating the affected materials to bring the home’s environment back to a healthy balance.

🚫 Bleach and “Mold-Kill” Paint Aren’t the Fix

We see this all the time — mold that’s been bleached or painted over. Unfortunately, neither of these actually solves the problem.

🧴 Bleach may remove the color temporarily, but it usually doesn’t pe*****te porous materials like wood or drywall where mold can live.

🎨 “Mold-kill” paints often just seal or hide the contamination, leaving it underneath where it can still affect the environment in the home.

At Demoldify, we focus on proper treatment — addressing the moisture source and treating affected materials to bring the home’s environment back to a healthier balance.

Are you living with hidden mold?

These two photos are of the same sink cabinet door.

The first photo was taken straight on with a flashlight — it just looks like some random splatter or staining.

The second photo was taken with the flashlight at an angle.

Completely different story.

When light hits a surface from the side, it reveals texture. What looked harmless suddenly showed visible mold growth across the door panel.

This is why proper lighting and inspection technique matter. Mold doesn’t always announce itself with dark, fuzzy patches. Sometimes it hides in plain sight.

Under sinks are especially vulnerable areas — small leaks, slow drips, and higher humidity create a perfect environment over time.

If you’re noticing staining, musty odors, or just haven’t looked under your sinks in a while… it might be worth a closer look.

Not everything is obvious at first glance.
