People always ask what takes the longest on a retaining wall project. It's not the blocks — it's everything before the blocks.

Excavating to the right depth. Building a level base. Compacting that base properly so it doesn't settle. Setting the first course perfectly, because every course after that depends on it.

By the time you see the wall going up, 60% of the work is already done.

Showcase Thursday 🌳

When you finish a community project, the best part isn't the after photo — it's seeing people actually use it.

This space went from raw slope to walking loop, natural play area, and new plantings in just over two months. Designed and built to handle daily foot traffic, PNW weather, and minimal long-term maintenance.

Big thanks to the design and install crew on this one. 👏

WIP Wednesday 🧱

Those little yellow pins you see on top of each block? They're what keep a segmental wall structural instead of decorative.

Each course locks into the one below it through those pins, which means the wall can flex slightly without coming apart — important in our freeze/thaw cycles. It's a small detail most homeowners never notice, but it's the difference between a wall that lasts 5 years and one that lasts 30.
