This is the cause of fire from yesterday morning. Use of an extension cord into this surge protector powering a small dormitory size refrigerator. Extension cords are incredibly helpful tools when used in a temporary setting, but PF&R advises against using an extension cord as permanent wiring. Particularly in areas where the cord can be damaged by foot traffic or damaged by other objects. These damages can be just enough cause arcing and sparking which can start of fire in that area.
This particular extension cord-surge protector was plugged in and sitting in an exterior setting. The cord itself was arcing at one end in dry vegetation and other fuels which is where the fire started and then grew to be what you have seen in the last few posts.
