We are a few weeks into hurricane season and already have a named storm in the Gulf of Mexico. Have you started to build an emergency kit yet? Here is a list of a few things you must have on hand if you plan on riding out a storm.

Water (one gallon per person per day for several days)
Food (at least a several-day supply of non-perishable food)
Battery-powered or hand crank radio
Flashlight
First aid kit
Extra batteries
Plastic sheeting and duct tape (to shelter in place)
Moist towelettes, garbage bags, and plastic ties (for personal sanitation)
Manual can opener (for food)
Cell phone with chargers and a backup battery
