1. Inspect for Leaks
• Check faucets, under sinks, and around appliances (dishwasher, water heater) for any leaks.
• Look for signs of water damage, such as warped flooring or water stains on ceilings and walls.
2. Check Outdoor Plumbing
• Turn on outdoor spigots and hoses to ensure they weren’t damaged by freezing temperatures.
• Inspect irrigation systems for leaks or broken sprinkler heads.
3. Test Sump Pump Functionality
• Pour water into the sump pump pit to ensure it activates properly.
• Clean out any debris from the pit and check for unusual noises.
4. Inspect Toilets and Pipes
• Check toilets for running water or leaks by adding a few drops of food coloring into the tank—if it seeps into the bowl without flushing, there’s a leak.
• Inspect exposed pipes for signs of wear, cracks, or moisture buildup.
5. Test Water Pressure
• Low water pressure can indicate a hidden leak or sediment buildup.
• Clean faucet aerators and showerheads to remove mineral deposits.
6. Check for Signs of Hard Water
• If you notice soap scum buildup or reduced water flow, you may have hard water.
• Spring is a good time to test water hardness and consider installing a water softener if necessary.
