Please pardon the mediocre shots here... But I wanted to take a quick minute to show you the barred cochins we are borrowing from a wonderful breeder, Bryant Helvey. Working with skilled breeders like Bryant is such a privilege and a treat. Bryant keeps many colors of bantam cochins and has been working for quite a few years to improve pattern and type in many of them. I got my gold and silver laced varieties from him, and together we are working on improving pattern and type in both. It will be a years long process, but interesting and rewarding nonetheless. Lucky for me, that these barred look so great already, now it's just time to hatch some chicks!!

It was a pleasure as always to attend and show at the Cascade Spring Poultry Show today in Monroe, WA. Pics are of my birds entered. I didn't include all my pics, the birds move around a lot and it's not always easy getting good shots. In total I brought two partridge cochins, three silver laced, four modern games, and a turkey.

My tiger bronze turkey was an absolute pill the entire show. He was NOT happy. The last picture is what he normally looks like. 😆 Apparently Sir Reginald the turkey gets stage fright!

One more plug for our big gem and mineral show that is coming up! We are people of many hobbies and interests, so birds and plants are just one aspect of our lives. We also dig for gems and hunt for fossils, and then make jewelry and things when we have time. If you are local, please come see us! It's a really fun show that has been going for almost 40 years in the community. Our gem and mineral club hosts this show and our club volunteers set it up and run the club activities. We have some wonderful vendors with so many interesting gems and minerals and jewelry for sale too. It's a fun show with lots to do! Hope to see you there!

It's obviously well past daylily season, but I wanted to show you this picture of Aladdin Sane, a daylily by Brian Reeder. It has been performing beautifully here and I'm so happy with it. I know probably most of you are here for the turkeys and chickens, but one of my other hobbies is the daylilies. I am slowly making my own crosses and hope to introduce my own plants one day, but in the meantime, I have a really nice collection of plants.

Aladdin Sane is blooming on rebloom scapes, meaning that it put up scapes at least a second time. This is a trait that I look for. Not all daylilies have it. And truthfully, I just really enjoy that pink and purple flower, especially in November!
