When it comes to mold, water, or environmental concerns in your home or business, who is interpreting the results matters just as much as the testing itself.

At Treasure State Restoration, we strongly believe in utilizing qualified third-party Indoor Environmental Professionals (IEPs) or Industrial Hygienists (IHs) when testing or protocol development is warranted.

Why? Because an independent third party provides:

• Unbiased evaluation and interpretation of results
• Proper understanding of building science and environmental conditions
• Clear remediation protocols based on industry standards
• Separation between testing and remediation to help avoid conflicts of interest
• Guidance from professionals specifically trained in environmental assessment — not just sample collection

Taking an air or surface sample is only one piece of the puzzle. Proper interpretation requires understanding spore ecology, moisture dynamics, containment strategy, building conditions, and ANSI/IICRC S520 principles.

An ethical remediation process should prioritize transparency, documentation, and qualified evaluation — not fear-based sales tactics or “one-size-fits-all” testing.

At Treasure State Restoration, we work alongside qualified third-party professionals so property owners can make informed decisions based on credible information and industry standards.

Most homeowners don’t realize that some restoration companies operate under insurance program agreements or third-party administrator (TPA) networks that require them to follow strict pricing models, vendor scorecards, and claim handling guidelines.

At first glance, that may sound like a good thing — lower costs, standardized pricing, and a “preferred vendor” label. But in practice, those programs can sometimes create pressure to keep claims as inexpensive as possible in order to maintain referrals and program standing.

That can potentially lead to:

• Reduced labor hours or smaller crews
• Lower material allowances or substitutions
• Shortened drying times or minimized remediation scopes
• Hesitation to recommend work that may be necessary but difficult to get approved
• Contractors prioritizing program compliance over property-specific needs

Every loss is different, and restoration should be based on the actual conditions of the property — not just a preset pricing model or vendor guideline.

A quality restoration company should be focused on proper drying, documentation, safety, communication, and restoring the property correctly the first time — even when that means having difficult conversations about what the structure truly needs.

Homeowners have the legal right to choose their own restoration contractor. Before signing anything, ask questions:

“Do you work for a TPA or insurance vendor program?”
“Are you required to follow program pricing guidelines?”
“Will your scope be based on my property’s needs or vendor limitations?”
"Are you a franchise that has to represent a corporate structure on TPAs"?

The lowest-cost approach is not always the best long-term outcome for your home.

Short answer: sometimes, but not always.

Small surface mold (like on tile or grout) can often be wiped away with proper cleaning. But when mold is caused by hidden moisture behind walls, under floors, or in crawl spaces, cleaning the surface won’t solve the problem.

If moisture is still present, mold will keep coming back even if everything looks clean.

That’s why proper drying and moisture control matter just as much as cleanup. It’s not just about what you see, it’s about what’s happening behind the scenes.

Your HVAC system circulates the air you breathe every day and whatever’s hiding inside your ducts goes with it.

Air duct cleaning helps remove dust, allergens, and buildup, especially during Montana winters when homes stay closed up and air keeps recirculating. Cleaner ducts mean cleaner air for your home.

Cold temperatures don’t just mean icy roads.

They also increase the risk of unexpected water damage. A little awareness now can save a lot of stress later. Stay warm, Montana.

Frozen pipes don’t always burst right away, they give warning signs first.

Watch for reduced water flow, strange odors, frost on exposed pipes, or unusual sounds. Catching it early can make all the difference.
