Your daily reminder that BUNTING is COOL 😎
One of my favorite things about the Tampa Bay Rays reaching the World Series is the reminder that baseball doesn't always have to be about hitting the ball 450 feet.
Sometimes it's about laying down a perfect bunt, beating out a routine ground ball, stealing second, and putting an unbelievable amount of pressure on the defense.
And Chandler Simpson is the PERFECT example.
Through his first two MLB seasons:302 batting average
297 hits
90 stolen bases
ZERO home runs
And that's what makes him so refreshing.
In a game increasingly obsessed with launch angle, exit velocity, and home runs, here's a guy who can completely change an inning without hitting the ball out of the infield.
Don't get me wrong, I love watching somebody launch a baseball into the upper deck as much as anybody.
But man, there's something BEAUTIFUL about watching a player manufacture a run with nothing but speed, instincts, and a little bit of chaos.
Bunting is cool. Stealing bases is cool. Putting the ball in play is cool.
And I hope the Rays' success reminds the rest of baseball of that 🫡
