Mikkel has been hard at work on backsplash demo over at 🔨

Behind every “pretty after” is a whole lot of prep work, dust, and patience.

The outdated backsplash is officially coming out to make way for selections that better fit the overall vision for the space lighter, more cohesive, and intentionally layered from finish to fixture.

It’s always exciting when a project starts moving from planning into transformation 👏

Some homes hold a lot of memories…
but eventually, they stop fitting the life happening inside them.

This lake home was one of those.

What started as the perfect getaway has slowly become too tight, too disconnected, and no longer functional for a growing family.

And when you’re at the lake,
every inch matters.

More people.
More movement.
More memories being made.

So instead of trying to make the old layout keep up…
we’re starting over.

This is a full teardown + rebuild, designed intentionally to create a home that works for real life on the lake: hosting, gathering, slowing down, and actually enjoying the space you’re in.

Thoughtful flow.
Better function.
And a design that finally matches the lifestyle.

This is more than a rebuild,

You truly cannot make this stuff up. 😅

Ordered a shower pan.
First one arrived damaged and drain on the wrong side.
Second one had a damaged fl**ge and drain still was on the wrong side.… but it was in an area tile would cover.
Third one FINALLY showed up perfect and correct.

At that point?
The project had already moved forward with option #2 because timelines still matter. 😂

Sometimes construction is less “HGTV reveal” and more “professional problem solving with mild emotional damage.”

The glamorous side of remodeling nobody talks about. 🛠️

| Progress Update

Now we’re getting to the good part 👀

The flooring and tile are officially in, and this 150+ year old farmhouse is starting to feel like a completely different home. What once felt tight and outdated is becoming brighter, cleaner, and far more functional for everyday life.

Countertops are going in next, and all the finishing details are starting to come together.

It’s been incredible watching this transformation unfold, especially knowing this home started with just one bathroom.

…and somehow it still didn’t end up right 😅

You can spend months planning, measuring, triple-checking, and coordinating every detail and sometimes curveballs still happen.

That’s construction. That’s design. That’s real life.

At the end of the day, we’re all human. Designers, vendors, installers, subcontractors, clients.
What matters most is having a team that knows how to pivot, problem solve, and keep moving forward toward the best end result.

Sometimes it’s the smallest changes that completely shift how a home feels ✨

New lighting is going in at and it’s already changing the entire mood of the space.

The old fixtures felt dated and disconnected. The new selections bring warmth, character, and a more cohesive feel to the main level without changing the footprint of the home.

Lighting matters more than people think.
It’s one of the fastest ways to make a home feel intentional, elevated, and updated.
