Every element of a kitchen contributes to the style and convenience of it. However, the flooring is one of the larger contributers, as it covers the entire area. The color, material and how it is installed are critical.

Much flooring comes as a plank or plank - look vinyl plank cut in strips to mimic wood floors. So whether you go with natural wood or install the wook-look alikes, you must decide which direction the material will draw the eye to.

What works best for you? Sometimes it is the shape of the kitchen that determines the best direction, such as a long, narrow kitchen, or the kitchen could be virtually square in shape. In any case, here are some photos to get you thinking!

Kitchen exhaust hoods are sometimes selected to be the focal point of the kitchen. They can be very stylish and create a fashion statement that sets the tone for the kitchen.

While they are an integral part of keeping the kitchen fresh, they can be a decorative piece as well! Here are a few photos of unique kitchen hoods we have installed.

Whats a luxurious bathroom? What features provide the feel of an upscale, cozy and relaxing master bath?

We all want to feel pampered, but we need an efficient, well designed space for our daily cleaning routine.

1. Plenty of tile - large format on the floor and perhaps tile that runs from floor to ceiling. We often see this in showers, but full height wall tile can be installed anywhere in the bathroom, and enhances the feel of luxury.
2. Large mirrors can virtually double the size of the room making it feel spacious.
3. Enclose the shower with glass. Yes, even a tub/ shower. Take a tub/ shower and install tile on the walls, and a glass wall with sliding door.
4. Heated floors!
5. Heated towel rack - nothing like a warm fluffy towel when you get out of the shower.

Kitchens are all about cabinets, countertops and flooring. These 3 elements cover the entire kitchen space; be sure they complement each other, with color, texture, and style so the kitchen feels cohesive instead of busy or disconnected.

Since cabinets are the first thing you see going into a kitchen, as they are at eye level, they set the style for the room. Their style and color should be complemented by the countertops and floor.

Check out some kitchen layouts online and in person before you settle on your next kitchen upgrade, it's always wise to be sure you will be happy with the new kitchen for many years to come.

What could be greater than brand new wall coverings in your kitchen? While it's true that the cabinets take up most of the wall area, the rest of the surface needs your attention.

The trend recently is to tile the wall all the way up from the counter. You don't have to stop 4 inches above the countertop; you can have that beautiful tile go all the way to the ceiling, between cabinets. Even have it installed in the area above the kitchen window; it's not a large area by any means, but it will bring the kitchen together in style.

Whatever your age, the concept of upgrading a home to meet "aging in place" (AIP) goals is a good idea. Whenever you are planning a remodel for part of your home, ask the contractor what could be done to make that space more amenable to the "aging in place" concept.

Safety, independance and comfort for everyone in the family is assured when the AIP guides are incorporated. No one wants to have to leave their home due to a fall or inacessible front door.

Make your home suitable for anything the future might hold - ask your contractor for suggestions when having the next remodel done. It is more than grab bars in the bathroom and stair-free entrances. And it can be done in keeping with the home's style.

If you thought fireplaces were only for indoors, think again. We see more and more fireplaces as part of a deck or patio installation. What could be more enjoyable than a cozy fire just outside your home, on the patio?

Decks tend to be popular locations for barbecues, even built in cook stoves for those outdoor kitchens. Here are some photos to get you started.

There's nothing like having more space in your house - just drive down any neighborhood street in the summer and see garages stuffed to the rafters with . . . stuff. More storage space is important, and even more so if you have a large family.

Additions can be built to increase living space, and that new master bedroom with ensuite bathroom is very popular. This is often built over a garage, which provides the right square footage for a bedroom plus bath, and has the benefit of not affecting the yard.

But the second most popular "addition" is a properly remodeled basement with organized storage and a rec room.

Five main criteria for a well designed bathroom are
1. Plenty of light
2. Quality mirror
3. Large shower
4. Vanity cabinet with plenty of storage; ie, drawers.
5. Well organized layout for ease of moving through the bathroom.

Updated bathrooms benefit from low-threshold showers, fixtures sized to suit the dimensions of the room, and quality matching hardware, such as sink faucet, shower faucet, toilet paper holder, towel holder.
