Here's a thought; what are the best tiles for shower and tub walls? These walls are exposed to water and moisture laden air daily, so it's important to get the right tile.

Porcelain is the most popular tile for shower walls, and is made from a mixture of clay, sand and feldspar that is baked in a kiln at very high temperatures. It comes in a wide variety of patterns and colors, from marble look to wood.

Floor tile in the majority of kitchens and bathrooms oftentimes are a thoughtful style that complements the overall look of the room. For instance, small bathrooms benefit from light colored, large format tiles that minimize grout lines.

For the shower, smaller tiles on the floor create a visual break and the extra grout lines provide additional traction, always a good idea in the wet environment.

Kitchen islands are a popular option, and why not! They have so many advantages that contribute to make your kitchen work more efficiently for you. But beware; they need to be sized properly to fit you kitchen space, leaving the right amount of "walking around" space.

Don't fall in love with the idea of a kitchen island unless you know that it will work for the available space. Hiring a competent and experienced contractor will make this happen. The amount of space between the island and counters is critical, and if there will be drawers or cabinets built into the island, there needs to be adequate space to open them without problems.

How much time and money should you put into replacement kitchen countertops during the next kitchen upgrade? Quite a lot, as it turns out. The countertops affect meal preps, and the right material will be sanitary and easily maintained.

Non porous materials like engineered quartz and porcelain are often selected for just that reason, plus the great variety of patterns and colors. How many styles are there for deck railings? It's not only appearance, but what your deck overlooks. A deck with a spectacular view deserves a safety railing that preserves that view, while doing it's job of keeping kids and pets safe. While a deck with neighbors a bit too close would benefit from a privacy screen type railing.

If you are thinking about adding more room to your house, did you know there are at least six ways this can be done? Here the options:
1. Sunroom
2. Build out into the yard.
3. Convert garage into living space
4. Build a room over the garage (remember, this will require stairs that will take up some room in the house or garage).
5. Finish the basement.
6. Convert attice space into living space.
What you can do depends on your house, the size of your property and building codes. Check with your favorite contractor to find out what will work for your existing home and budget.

Every element of a kitchen contributes to the style and convenience of it. However, the flooring is one of the larger contributers, as it covers the entire area. The color, material and how it is installed are critical.

Much flooring comes as a plank or plank - look vinyl plank cut in strips to mimic wood floors. So whether you go with natural wood or install the wook-look alikes, you must decide which direction the material will draw the eye to.

What works best for you? Sometimes it is the shape of the kitchen that determines the best direction, such as a long, narrow kitchen, or the kitchen could be virtually square in shape. In any case, here are some photos to get you thinking!

Whats a luxurious bathroom? What features provide the feel of an upscale, cozy and relaxing master bath?

We all want to feel pampered, but we need an efficient, well designed space for our daily cleaning routine.

1. Plenty of tile - large format on the floor and perhaps tile that runs from floor to ceiling. We often see this in showers, but full height wall tile can be installed anywhere in the bathroom, and enhances the feel of luxury.
2. Large mirrors can virtually double the size of the room making it feel spacious.
3. Enclose the shower with glass. Yes, even a tub/ shower. Take a tub/ shower and install tile on the walls, and a glass wall with sliding door.
4. Heated floors!
5. Heated towel rack - nothing like a warm fluffy towel when you get out of the shower.
