A forest garden can appear wild and messy to some. Nothing is static when you allow plants to bloom and seed and travel around the garden. However this is one of the goals in a perennial edible landscape. To create wild spaces that give homes to pollinators, frogs, birds, and bats. These spaces hold onto more water with their woody debris, they sequester more carbon with their deep rooted plants and mycelial networks, they build topsoil with their leaf litter and mulch, they create homes for pollinators, and they feed the humans that interact in the space with more than just food. We celebrate the wild spaces and revel in the fact that as humans we can design landscapes that support a multitude of species.
