Our latest newsletter is out now — and this one is worth reading.

We're covering the sheer volume of historic roofing material we've recovered this season — nearly 1,000 squares of clay tile, 400 squares of natural slate, and well over 1,400,000 pounds of material saved from the landfill. Along with a preview of what's currently available in the yard right now.

🔍 SEARCHING FOR TILE — Can you help?

I need 1,100 pieces of this Ludowici tapered barrel tile — and I need them fast.

From the photos you can see the Ludowici-Celadon Chicago stamp on the underside — this is early production material. The tile is fire flashed, approximately 18" long with a tapered barrel profile. The butt end measures approximately 6" wide.

If you have a roof coming off, a salvage in progress, or material sitting in a yard — I want to hear from you today. I'm not looking for a close match. I need this specific tile.

We have an extraordinary amount of Ludowici Closed Shingle tile in stock — and we need to move it.

Nearly 475 squares of reclaimed Historic Closed Shingle tile available right now across four colorways, plus thousands of matching trim tiles. This isn't a partial lot. These are complete roofing systems — available immediately.

Here's what we have:

True Fire Flash — 200 squares
Red — 100 squares
Old Brookville Green — 100 squares
Dull Green — 75 squares

Matching trim for every color:
Under eave tiles · End bands · Right & left-hand gable rakes · Hip starters & hip rolls · closed ridge ends · Terminals

Some background on the tile itself: The Imperial Closed Shingle was an established Ludowici-Celadon product by the 1910s — a small-format, flat-faced interlocking terra cotta tile that gives a roof the orderly appearance of individual shingles while delivering the durability, fire resistance, and weather protection of dense high-fired clay. At 11.6 lbs. per square foot installed and a Class A fire rating, this is about as serious as a roofing material gets.

Complete roofing systems. Very limited wait time. Exceptional project pricing.

Have you worked with Ludowici Closed Shingle before? What was the application?

A simple question for our followers.

We invest a good deal of time creating, posting, and maintaining our social media presence — sharing inventory, history, specs, and the occasional piece of fried mud that stops us in our tracks.

So I'd genuinely like to know: have you ever contacted us because of something you saw in a post? A tile profile, a slate lot, a photo from the yard?

Your feedback helps us understand what's working and what's worth our time. Chime in — I'd love to hear from you.

This is the Ludowici Norman. And this particular lot is something special.

The Norman profile takes its name from Normandy, France — where flat clay shingle tiles have been the dominant roofing material since the Middle Ages. Dense, heavy, deeply textured. Built to handle Atlantic gales, cold winters, and a century of exposure. Ludowici brought that tradition to America and has been producing this profile in New Lexington, Ohio since the early 1900s.

What makes our reclaimed lot different from anything you can order new: these tiles have been on a roof long enough to develop a surface the factory simply cannot replicate. Deep weathered blacks. Natural lichen colonizing the cratered dimple texture. A warm red-brown clay body exposed at the edges. On a roof, they don't read as uniform — they read as a surface with genuine history.

We're having a yard sale.

The bone yard is full and something has to move. Today's newsletter covers five groups of exceptional material — all available for immediate purchase, all motivated pricing.

🏚️ Ludowici Heritage Closed Shingle — nearly 350 squares across Fire Flash, Clay Red, Brookville Green, and Dull Green. Full trim included.

🏚️ Ludowici 15" Norman — 160+ squares of heavy pitted slab tile in a stunning red/brown/black blend. About as close to a traditional European aesthetic as clay tile gets.

🏚️ Vermont Purple Slate — the final 125 squares of a stunning purple slate lot recovered from a golf club near Chicago. Rich, deep color. Clean, sound, and ready to install.

If you work with tile or slate roofing — or you're simply passionate about historic architecture — our newsletter is worth being on.

Every issue covers what's moving through the yard: salvaged Ludowici profiles, reclaimed slate, obsolete manufacturers, rare finds, and materials you won't see in any distributor catalog. We keep it focused and we keep it honest. No filler, no fluff — just real inventory, real specs, and the kind of sourcing information that's hard to find anywhere else.

We've been in this business for over 40 years. One of the largest tile and slate bone yards in North America. If historic roofing materials matter to your work, this is the list to be on.

One of the most historically significant interlocking profiles we carry — and one of the hardest to source — is the Ludowici Early American Old Type. We call it the EAOT. We have over 20 pallets in stock right now.

The EAOT is a historic Ludowici profile. It is not in current standard production. Ludowici can reproduce it, but doing so requires a custom manufacturing run with extended lead times. If you need it for a near-term project, what we have in the yard is the answer.

Specs straight from Ludowici's own datasheet:
✔ 825 lbs. per square
✔ 173 pieces per square
✔ Overall size: 8-5/8" x 13-3/4"
✔ Minimum slope: 3:12
✔ Bark base texture

Available colors from our stock:
— Gray/Green (reclaimed)
— Green (reclaimed)
— Red/Brown, weathered (reclaimed)

If you're working on a restoration that involves this profile — or you've been searching for matching material — reach out today. This is the inventory. This is the time.

I have hundreds of squares of Ludowici Americana 14" in stock right now — and it may be the most versatile interlocking profile Ludowici has ever made.

The Americana features a lightly pressed bark texture with a gently rounded butt. It reads as refined but with a rustic character — the kind of roof that works equally well on a historic craftsman, a contemporary estate, or a period-accurate restoration. At 800 lbs. per square and 158 pieces per square, it installs efficiently and performs.

What we have available:
✔ Earth Gray — reclaimed and new
✔ Forest Green — reclaimed and new
✔ Brown — reclaimed
✔ Green — reclaimed
✔ Aged Cedar — new

Multiple colors. Hundreds of squares. Ready to ship.

The newsletter covering our full interlocking inventory is live — link in first comment.
