Deck season is in full swing! 🪵

We get a lot of call for decks this time of year. A few things to consider when calling a contractor:

1) Season matters. If you’re looking for a summer project, it’s best to call in the fall or early winter to get solidified on our books for the upcoming season. Plan head when thinking of a big project you want to tackle.

2) If you call in the summer and we don’t answer right away, we will get back to you. Some contracts won’t answer at all in busy seasons 🤯 We often have customers say “We’re just so happy we got a hold of someone.” We will get back to you.

3) If you schedule an estimate, make sure to be there! You will get a reminder message confirming your select appointment. We will give you a window of time on when to expect the estimate back.

4) Create a list of questions upon calling in and/or create a list of questions for when we come out for your estimate. Details matter! This is a team effort to get everything done the way you want it.

Hope this helps you get organized before calling your local contractor. (Hi George 👋🏼 )

When your son has to remodel and remodel 🤣😱🤣

BACKSTORY - One of the tough parts about being married to a contractor is the women in the family typically get thier home projects done last. It’s just how it goes in our line of work. Sometimes (and specifically here in my daughter-in-laws case) they will grow impatient and take matters into their own hands. 😅

For example, Courtney bought stick on tile 🫣 and didn’t take into consideration the wall needed to be level along with making custom cuts. We decided this video is a great learning opportunity for WHY we don’t like DIY!

WHAT CAN WE ALL LEARN?
- As Courtney mentioned “Your get what you pay for.”
Stick on tile, doesn’t cut easily and it often peels even after proper placement.
- Hire a licensed and experienced contractor to assess the wall (and the tile) before making any “big”decisions.
- Keep laughing and smiling when there is a screw up or set back. There’s worse things in life! Not to mention it’s necessary for a healthy marriage.

This video is too funny. Especially since Paul rocks at tile. When he gets the REAL stuff on the wall, we’ll send an updated video 🤦🏽‍♂️🫠 To be continued!

🛁 This is a quick snap shot of our final reveal for recent BATHROOM REMODELS. There’s many more in our portfolio + many more to come.

🛁 Maybe you’ve been thinking about pulling the trigger on a bathroom remodel, but you’re not sure where to start, the $, the time & even the steps to take for coordination + completion.

🛁 Here are a few FAQ to get organized for your BATHROOM REMODEL:

1) What’s the general cost?
A) It depends.
A term called ‘mobilization cost’ ends up being one of the biggest factors in determining price. Mobilization includes getting a crew on-site, management of the project & coordination of trades.

Another factor in price is repair before remodel.
Often when we come out for an estimate, the homeowner is unaware of a hidden bathroom repair that needs to happen before the project even begins.

Finally, accessibility to material &/or type of material. Sometimes a homeowner will order everything from Menards or HomDepot & sometimes they’ll order material out of state or even out of country. That creates quite a gap for price point.

(The best thing to do is schedule an estimate to know exactly what it will cost for your unique bathroom remodel: JeffsGoodWorks.com)

2) How long goes it take?
A) Fair question;Typically months.
A bathroom remodel is a detailed, multi-phased process that requires not just your contractor team, but coordination of subs. (Plumbing, electrical, tile, cabinets, lighting, ventilation)
Unlike open concept kitchens, bathrooms are usually compact so ONE crew has to be scheduled at one time.

Not to mention, there’s most likely something in the reno process that will pop up “unexpectedly.”
We “expect” it, but the homeowner on the other hand, may not be aware that other repairs need to be done along side the remodel. It’s common & it’s why we tell customers a window of time for completion. (Not a set date)

3) Do I need permits?
A) If the scope goes beyond resurfacing updates, yes.
Permits are required for: Moving/updating plumbing, electrical, structure changes & expanding footprint. Your contractor will talk you through this. Hope this helps & thank you for your busines

I don’t know about you, but when I hired my first contractor, I felt a bit of a 🦌 in the headlights about what to anticipate with my home transition.

Here are FIVE THINGS to expect from our men & women who will be in & out of your home while constructing your BATHROOM REMODEL:

1) It’s a universal ‘customer inquiry’ about dirt being tracked in. We do our best to bring our own rugs & be as mindful as possible.

2) It’s nice when we can have a designated place for our tools. We have a lot! We seal off a small area to prevent dust debris. Think ahead what area works best for you to need limited access to.

3) We will be running fans & opening windows on/off constantly (and also weather dependent) for necessary air flow. We also need outlets for multiple large & small fans.

4) Trash is an on-going process with a remodel & we will have large bins placed sporadically to keep the mess at bay. We typically dump more than once & more so toward the end of the project.

5) Professional lighting is necessary for our crew to do our best. Be warned - it’s bright! Maybe with the fan & the lighting, you can strike a quick pose 💁🏽‍♀️ I guess we carry an impromptu IG modeling station. We’re quite the diverse company 😂

Finally, let’s discuss floor heat in northern Minnesota. We’ve installed a lot of these bad boys & there’s been zero customer regret! Hope this helps YOU prepare for your next bathroom remodel.

It’s exterior season 🎉 and we’re on DECK DUTY! 🎉
As opposed to telling you what we do, how about we just show you!

A) Interested in a deck estimate? Fill out a quick form here: https://www.jeffsgoodworks.com/contact-3
and we will call you!

B) We will select your appointment day/time & confirm your appointment through a text reminder.

C) We will come with our scanning tools, camera to take photos, notes to take measurements + notes on all your wants, needs & hopes.

D) Once we get general notes jotted down, we’ll start asking deeper questions to make sure we are on the same page. The deeper/harder questions are not the sexy stuff, but need to be addressed.

E) Then we ask the fun stuff!
Material, design, railing, lightings, entertainment functionality, awning, bbq station, benches, stairs, privacy screens, built in herb garden, hot tub or sauna section etc.

F) From our first estimate, we have about 90% of the picture to build the deck. Depending on how long measurements take, we may need to come back one more time. The 2nd time is usually quick. We are double checking our work along with creating a bid we know is ready to fly to the customer! 📨

A deck is an extension of your home & how cool would it be to work together on this!
