Preventing Fungus in your Lawn this Summer
As we go into the hot part of the Summer, Fungus can be an issue that weakens the lawn and causes damage to the grass plants. Correct watering, fertilization, Aeration and Seeding, can prevent the issue. Here are some tips that you can use.
1. limit the use of high nitrogen fertilizers. If you have our program, we have you covered. Our slow release, organic nutrients will help prevent too much nitrogen that can cause fungal breakouts. The organic makeup of the products also is a help.
2. Water deeply, in the early morning, and less frequently. When the grass plants remain wet for more than a few hours and are not able to dry out, fungus can occur. Watering at night causes the grass plants to be wet for many hours. Watering in the early morning 4-6 am and concentrating on the zones to be later in the cycle that would stay wet(shade areas). Water deep. Measure with a flat bottom container how much water is applied. Set for 1/2-3/4 inch per time. Water 1-1 1/2 inches per week.
3. During the off season Core Aerate and overseed. Again, we can have you covered. Our full sun and full shade seeds incorporate newer varieties of seed that are resistant to the fungus, and will grow better. Older varieties are more susceptible to fungus.
